Ain't no better and more accurate a political compass than celebrity opinion. There ain't a group of people more detached from reality than celebrities who live in Hollywood and make a living playing make-believe.

If you're ever unsure about where to stand on a particular issue, pay attention to what people like Meryl Streep are saying... and do the exact opposite.

Truth.

It's odd to me that working class people seem to look at celebrities like they are something other than what they are. Has always perplexed me.

I hope this was an attempt at sorcasum because if you put that much salt into what a Hollywood tree hugger says... well you may need to re evaluate things.

I always lol when people get all rustled when a celebrity says something they don't agree with. She didn't even say anything bad but it was obviously shots at trump so now she is a bad person.

I've literally hated her in everything she's ever been in. Admittedly I don't watch much with her in it, because generally I know if she's in it, it's a terrible movie. Am I too young to "get it"? Why she's so incredibly important and great I mean. She's obviously revered as a God, I just don't see where the joke (if it is) was derived from.

She has every right to her opinion, but the fact that she took time in a speech that was honoring her lifetime achievements to obsess about The Donald.........is so MAGA.

She's a fantastic actress. I don't look to celebrities for their political or social insight, though.

Me neither, and I kind of scratch my head at people that do take celebrity opinions seriously. Celebrities are the most insulated-from-reality group of people in this country, they have no idea what it is like to live in "real" America.

I don't think everything they have to say is out-of-hand false or irrelevant, and many of them grew up dirt poor (Jim Carey). I just don't look to them for their political or social insight because usually they don't have the intelligence or education to really know what they are talking about. And this past election really only showed how they are driven more by emotions than reason.

Thank you, Hollywood Foreign Press. Just to pick up on what Hugh Laurie said: You and all of us in this room really belong to the most vilified segments in American society right now. Think about it: Hollywood, foreigners and the press.
Victims, everyone is a victim. Go back to your multi-million dollar home and feel sorry for your self. You have had such a rough life. I'm sorry your feelings are hurt. I'm sorry your "community" discriminates against those with opposing political views.

You say Hollywood is villified? Is this the same Hollywood that blackballs conservatives. Is this the same Hollywood that apparently has an all white male niminations board? Is this the same Hollywood that makes sure a "gay" person is in every sitcom so the public thinks "gayness" is common place. Is this the same Hollywood that ridicules religion with the exception of Islam.

Meryl, go frick yourself.

I am not familiar with all of her roles. I did not enjoy the one where she was the homely wife, and things didn't go her way.

I also did not like the one where she was the homely single woman who was looking for someone to worship her. Things didn't go her way.

I also didn't like any of them where she was the kind, homely wife or the mean, homely wife. The one where she was the mean homely girlfriend had its' moments but overall I did not like it.

The pattern is that she is homely and things don't work out for her. Art imitating the election.
