Hijack- I'm pretty sure I'm sold on the Tundra. The only thing I tow is a 2,000 lb lawn mower and an 18' Triton and both of those are just locally and at most monthly. There is about a $4k difference in the 4.6L and the 5.7L. Obviously if money isn't a concern go with the bigger of the two, but will I notice a huge difference in my daily commute 40+ miles on I-10 one way?

I had a 4.6L in my 2005 2wd, and a 5.7 in my current 2016 4wd. I get almost the identical gas mileage.
I was told by some that have the 4.6L in the newer trucks they actually get worse mileage than the 5.7L. Strap a boat to the back, and the advantage of the 5.7 is even more noticeable.

14 mpg vs 20 mpg in a 80 mi commute with gas at $2 is a $3.40 per day difference.

no matter what they "claim" you are going to average 13mpg with a tundra but it has more pulling torque to the ground then a ford in real life (not talking about the "claims" on the stickers)
I average 16-16.5 regularly
16.2 since last fillup

I've had my F-150 for a year and a half after driving Chevy's and I doubt I'll ever go back.

You can't really go wrong with either but the Tundra is slightly better if you don't mind paying more and spending more on gas. If budget matters go Ford, if you have spare cash get the Tundra.

14 mpg vs 20 mpg? You talking about the Ford getting 20? I am getting about 15 in my 05 Z71 with a tail wind if I'm lucky...

No. You asked about daily commutes and whether you'd noticed the difference. I was just simply putting a value on a hypothetical situation, to put a monetary value on MPG in an example scenario.

ah, thanks for that. I'm a little slow sometimes. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I bought my 2016 Tundra CC 5.7 TSS 4x4 last March at Price Leblanc for 41K. An F150 with a similar package would have been 44K.

I bought a 16 Tundra 4.7 with the TSS Package which has the more offroad looking tires which I assume would decrease the gas mileage and I still get 16.5 mpg. I tow a 20' Sea Hunt occasionally.

Toyota doesn't make a 4.6. Maybe a 4.7?

Can't go wrong with either choice. With regular maintenance, either truck will last over 200k.
I've been a die-hard Ford truck guy since years before I could even drive (legally). After owning nothing but Fords for the last 12 years, I broke down and bought a 2012 Tundra and couldn't be happier with it. The mpg while towing is pretty bad, especially since I had a diesel before this Tundra, but the unloaded mpg isn't much worse than my last F150. The Tundra has been the most fun to drive which probably has a lot to do with the 5.7 and a 4:30 rear end.
Fords definitely have more bells and whistles than the Toyotas, but with that comes more mechanical issues. I am a regular reader of both Ford and Toyota forums, and I can tell you that the Toyota forums have much less "my truck is broken please help" type of threads.

ahh... that settles it then.

I've owned three trucks. Chevy, Honda, now Toyota.
I was fairly active on the forums for all three. While it is completely anecdotal, I would say there was a lot of consistency between the amount of bitching on the Chevy forums with the amount of little shite that went wrong on my Chevy and the almost nonexistent bitching on the ROC and the 225k+ miles my Ridgeline did with absolutely zero issues.

If you ever owned a Honda Ridgeline then you're not allowed to participate in truck discussions.

Reading forums doesn't make me an expert, but where else do people go to post about issues or find out info?
