Amazon Echo Pricing

Sorta interested and I see them listed at about $180. Do they offer any discounts or do any of you expect a price change anytime soon? I just don't want to buy one at $180 and realize I could have paid way less a week or two later. TIA

I got one on Prime Day for $120-130. I think Black Friday they were on sale too. Those are usually the 2 times they have been discounted.

Is the only difference between the Echo and the Dot the speaker?

I think so but I'd like to hear others input. I think the dot is chargeable and not a full time plugged in piece. I was thinking about trying the Dot first to see how we like it, and if we do, get the full size later and sync it up with the Dot to cover more of the house later.

Incorrect. You are thinking of the new Tap.
Only difference between Echo and Dot is the Echo has a much higher quality speaker. I don't care about that because I have my home theater for music.

You can't sync yet. They are all seperate although you can share the skills.
Only difference is the echo has a superior speaker. I have both.
I bought the dot to hook up to my receiver for sound and in other rooms for the kids to play and wife to do some cooking.
The larger one is for my office.

Linked the Dot to a Bose Soundlink BT Speaker and use it on its cradle as a superior speaker than even the Echo. Then when we wanna get mobile we can move the Speaker wherever. It's got a 10 hour battery charge and the ability to take calls and remain BT connected to my iPhone simultaneously to my Dot.
So in a sense I can stream music from Amazon or iPhone remotely, take a call or even conference folks, or use Alexa.
It's got a ton of potential and for $39-49 (where the Dot is routinely priced at), it's just a no-brainer. It's a really powerful tool hooked into Amazon and even beyond that, the level of skills and control it can accomplish with IoT and smart-home accessories make it without question the most diverse, versatile and inexpensive foray into whole-home automation consumers have right now.

I have a Google Home arriving today
Used the echo over the weekend, so looking forward to comparing the two

Most have mentioned that the echo has a better speaker, but the one thing the dot has that the echo doesn't is the expanded bluetooth ability and the 3.5mm audio out jack that the echo does not have.

If you can spare an extra $5 or so, there are many many many 3.5" mm out jack BT dongles that work incredibly well at distance available on Amazon.
It's an inelegant solution but it would allow for the wireless connection if the receiver or source wasn't BT capable.

I've played with both briefly. My initial impression is that google home is a much more powerful search engine. It uses google so that's not shocking where as Alexa uses Bing. For home automation Alexa is light years ahead at the moment. I'm sure google will catch up though. I have dots in several rooms and they control my entire house. If they ever sync them I will have one in every room.

Explain please?
I have two and both will do anything I set either one up to do.

Right now you cannot play the same music on both at the same time. At the moment they both use their own internet signal. For true whole home audio syncing is necessary.

Yep. They just launched their developer tools in December I believe, so integration with other devices and app should follow
I'm very impressed with both devices tbh.
