I believe this shows exactly how much promise investors believe this area has. Zero. Nobody wants to touch that area.

A special tax break program designed to inspire rebuilding and investment in north Baton Rouge drew just one project this year, despite the efforts of political and community leaders trying to sell the area to investors.

Investor David Treppendahl said his recent foray into trying to invest in the area was met with so much skepticism from Baton Rouge banks that he had to secure financing from a bank in St. Francisville. Treppendahl, who works for NAI Latter & Blum, purchased an apartment complex in the spring then-known as Hawthorne Heights at 2136 North Lobdell Blvd.

If you don't build there, you're racist.
If you do build there and the success raises property value then you're racist

Y'all cry and whine about north br but what are you doing to fix it?

Is it his responsibility to fix it?

If the community would take responsibility for themselves and put emphasis on stability, work and education, then they could relatively quickly turn north BR around.

I did my part. I moved out of Baton Rouge.

By paying taxes and living in south BR.

Sharon and Gary are going to fix that.

I grew up in NBR and when I came back to invest in rental properties it was a nightmare.
I gave up and sold my places after having to deal with 21 gun salute every Friday night, crackwhore fights every weekend, and major kids & mothers fighting after the mandatory daycare bus drops off its most distinguished students. Mama rents a place and lets her kids move in that causes problems while she moves in with one of her many babies daddies across town.
Another friend bought an apartment complex off North Foster Dr which he paid close to $1 million for it and then put another $750k in it. He sold out after a few years. He said he has never seen so many people act like animals. He told me a lot of the tenants destroyed the apartments, most do not pay the rent on time, and they laugh at you while destroying your property. He finally sold out to another property mgmt company.
He told me what I always thought that Compton is safer than NBR.
My question to whoever said what are you doing about is "What are you doing about it?"
Who wants to invest thousands of dollars in an area where people act worse that people in third world countries?
Why not invest your money in NBR and see how you feel when the community destroys your business or rental property?

I mentor/tutor/coach/invest in the youth in the community. I don't have a lot of money but I care and spend my time there.

Fun fact. The segment of the black community that lives in the ghetto/projects, as a whole, doesn't want to better themselves.

Not to worry. Our good pal Gary is on it!

This next 4 years is going to be a disaster for Baton Rouge

Gary Chambers and Tyrus Thomas will solve the problems.

If you don't have the money then do not criticize people who have made a huge mistake trying to invest in NBR.
This comes from a person who was born in NBR, grew up in NBR, and seen it go from a nice working class community to a war zone.
Until the community cleans up its act, it will be hard for companies or individuals to want to invest in the area.

What qualifications does someone like Gary have to be on that Committee? I can just imagine the meetings where some businessman is going to have to explain economic realities to Gary like they are speaking to a third grader.
