"I'll say this, and I mean this," Riley told The Sun Sentinel. "Shaq's acquisition was bigger than any acquisition that we ever made, including the Big Three."
Just heard this on TNT.

Would they have gotten LeBron if Shaq doesn't come to Miami, win a title, and help Wade become a beloved figure on South Beach? Does Wade bolt to the Bulls earlier?
Think outside the box.
ETA: When directly comparing that acquisition to the LeBron acquisition, I certainly wouldn't agree on the surface. However, if he would have just said that Shaq was the most important acquisition in the history of our franchise, and explained how it changed the course of the organization, it would make a whole lot of sense.

Shaq won with just Wade.
Lebron needed wade and the other guy.

And I'm pretty sure he's taking a quote from an article in September.

What was context?
Here's something from one of many articles from 3 months ago on this topic.
quote:
"(Alonzo Mourning) was big, but getting Shaquille changed everything for our franchise."
Though those Heat-Knicks postseason meetings in the Mourning era were gripping, O'Neal and Dwyane Wade brought the franchise its first title, and Riley says it was O'Neal's arrival that changed the trajectory of the organization.
"The seminal moment to make us really, really legitimate," Riley said. "He turned our franchise around. He gave us real legitimacy."

They mentioned it during the game now.

Jordan's shot over Ehlo was probably the biggest shot in the history of the Bulls franchise and that was only the first round and 2 full years before they won the title.

Kenny Smith put it best in perspective "If the Shaq deal doesn't go down, LeBron doesn't think about going to Miami"
