I feel like this should be standard practice. I don't want to be tracking shite into my or other people's home. And people can wear socks so others don't have to look at feet.

I almost never wear shoes in my house, especially in the wintertime. Other people's house? Usually not unless I am asked, or I know them reeeeealy well

When I walk into a friend's house I offer to take off my shoes and usually do that anyway.

Always, unless it's a BBQ where I'll be heading right back outside.

I ask about it if they have really nice hardwood floors and I haven't been there to know the answer already. They may want you to but not want to ask you to if you are in that sort of know well zone.

Not unless asked, and at our house we try to keep shoes off the carpet, etc., but when guests come I don't ask them to.

That said, when you think about the nastiness that shoe soles bring into your home and deposit into carpet, etc., it really is disgusting. Public bathroom floors, street crud, parking lots. The average floor surface must be just littered with fecal matter, urine, dirt, dead animal leftovers, the list goes on. Really started to think about it after having a kid.

We should be more like the AZNs. I don't know how it became customary in the west to wear shoes all through people's homes, but most folks think you're a weirdo if you take off shoes or ask others to.
