Will LSU focus more on the passing game now?

Seems like Canada is still run first. How can a run first team beat Bama? The closest anyone has got to consistently competing with Bama is Ole Miss and they're a pass heavy team. Is LSU conceding the Bama games now? No chance they can overpower and just run over Bama DL.

There is a difference between run first compared to run the same play every time u run.

You scheme and attack weaknesses
Canada will do what needs to be done ti beat a team.
He isn't jsut going to run LF7 between the tackles till we are too far behind to run anymore.

Thing is LSU also needs to play to the strength of the personnel. Guice is the best player on the offensive side of the ball and you can't get too far away from him. It doesn't matter what offensive scheme you run if the o line gets obliterated like it did in the bama game this year.

We have underutilized our WR for over a decade practically.
We did everything we could to utilize guice and fournette against Bama, and it didn't work.
We just won't beat Bama, I get it. Unless we have the most talented OL in college football, we will never beat Bama.

I don't disagree with you that we've underutilized our wr's. A lot of that blame can go on Les Miles and Cam Cameron essentially trying to hide LSU's qb and their development has been absolute garbage. Right now we don't have a proven qb that can take over the game so we still need to be a more run heavy team. The fact of the matter is with LSU's qb woes it's going to be incredibly difficult to beat Bama. We probably won't be favored against them in a game until Saban leaves.

LSU won't find a passing game until they find a QB.
I hope LScott is the answer we've been looking for.

I just think a spread offense beats Bama. It's been obviously the only offense they've consistently struggled with, and Saban has even publicly voiced his displeasure about the uptempo spread. I don't think we're improving our chances. We had maybe the two best RB in LSU history this season, and we still couldn't score a single point.

I just think a better system helps the QB issue drastically.

quote:Maybe, Nebraska's run defense was vunerable and he called the game to exploit it Just because he thought that his team was compable of doing that to Neb, doesn't mean that he'd design a game plan to beat Bama with the run if he doesn't think it could be done. He isn't Les.
Watch those plays. How many of those work against Alabama? Also note the running back personnel...a few productive NFL guys...

Fair point, but I don't see anything unique or tricky about his offense. It just seems bland IMO. I don't think it's going to be great tbh. Canada is smart to cash in while his name is hot, and I think he's a solid coordinator, just not the one we need. We'll see.

Nailed it.
But, Canada's style is pretty Freeze-esque

That's such bullshite. It's the scheme that fails against Bama, not the OL. Bama in recent years has been beaten by Ohio St, OK, Utah, Ole Miss, a&m. Those OLs didn't blow Bamas DL off the line. It's just never going to happen. Those offenses found other ways to move the ball. That's what good coaches do and that's why Miles was fired.

He will develop an overall scheme that is predicated on run-first.
He can also develop "one-off" schemes that take advantage of personnel matchups - see pass defense of Bama, Arky, and Ole Miss.
The inability of Miles/Cameron to do this in their final 2 years killed them - and you can't lay it at the feet of the QB. It's the coaches responsibility to create the game plan.

It didn't matter if LSU had the best back in the NFL this year nobody was going to rush for much when the o line got demolished and the qb play was atrocious. I do agree with you that spreads are better against Bama, but they need to be a balanced attack where Bama can't attack downhill. Every team Bama has had trouble with had a qb who could punish over aggressive pass rushers with his legs. In Auburns miracle game they only had 97 yards passing in that game but scored 34 points.

This is what's lost on LSU fans, for some odd reason. The LSU scheme is simply too shitty for college QBs to run well. The worst example of this is Mett--does no one find it extraordinary that LSU only managed one real good year out of having him three? Mett sat the bench at Georgia, then played JUCO, then sat at LSU, then played 2012, and then finally was ready for an explosive 2013. That's the LSU system, ladies and gentlemen.
So anything other than that garbage will be an improvement.

Have we forgotten the success on the ground Gus Malzahn has had against Alabama when he has had a good running backs & a serviceable QB?

I agree with pretty much everything you've said. I am just not thrilled about this guy. Bama and Florida would dominate every play I've seen the guy run, they have way too much lateral speed.
But I sure as hell hope I'm wrong..
