I think everyone agrees that when O was hired, it was expected that LSU make an ELITE (Splash) hire for Offensive Coordinator... so....
ELITE Hire Making a SPLASH:
Lane Kiffin
- don't care for him, but can't argue his success as a coordinator.
Lincoln Riley
- Hottest Name Fast Riser
*** I don't understand why either of those two would make a lateral move to LSU, besides the Lane and Coach O connection.
* Risks that are ELITE
Sarkisian
- Head Coach Experience. Coach O connection. Development of players. But obviously in some dark couple of years with the drinking and divorce. But don't be so quick to judge.
Art Briles
- brilliant offensive mind. You might even get his son with him. But how does his offense do in the SEC? Also, can he work under O.... He seems like a his way or the highway kinda guy.
Great Hire TIER 2:
Sterlin Gilbert
- performed well in a Hostile coaching situation at Texas. Almost snuck his RB in the final Heisman discussions. Probably recruits Texas well. He's available.
Sonny Cumbie
- Mike Leach Air Raid guy. Gary Patterson paid this guy 1.4 million to keep TEXAS from hiring him last year. Stats seem good but AGAIN, how does Texas Tech style offense translate in SEC?
Mark Helfrich
- I don't consider this guy to be elite. Chip called the plays. When Chip left, they did well at first, but I believe the success is credited to the diamond in the rough coach, Scott Frost. Without Chip and Frost, the wheels fell off. Melt on me if you want... just telling the truth.
Matt OHHHH Canada
- I actually believe this guy's philosophy and play calling fits LSU pretty dang good. I think he'd do well at LSU, but I'm not sure I see this happening.
*Risks on Tier 2:
Kevin Wilson
- Geez, what the heck did this guy do to get FIRED? Seems to be a really good offensive mind with proven success. Won the Broyles award for Top Assistant coach at Oklahoma as Offensive Coordinator. If you're Saban, you can probably make this hire... even Stoops if Lincoln Riley were to leave. But I can't see Orgeron making this hire.
Tier 3:
Dan Enos
- nice safe hire. Wouldn't be thrilled.
Kendall Briles
- could be a home run guy. But in my opinion, he's not a proven guy yet. And would probably bring JUCO QB Stidham with him, but do we actually want that drama? But most importantly, if you are COACH O, are you putting your dream job's offense in this kids hands? NOPE!
Tee Martin
- USC connection w/ Coach O. Phenomenal recruiter. But Helton is in charge of the offense. Tee gets Helton the players and gives his input, but ultimately, HELTON is the OC. I'm not saying TEE wouldn't be or isn't a good capable option... but it's not a home run COACHING hire, it's a home run RECRUITING hire.
Tier 4:
Steve Ensminger
- thank you for your service.
- stay on staff
- but no.

Damn good breakdown. Can't argue with any of that.
Eaux Canada! ????

Lincoln Riley
Saw you put Lincoln Riley higher than Sonny Cumbie. I hope you know Riley is under the Leach Tree as well

Like the list but in my opinion Dan Enos is tier one. He's a great playcaller . Arkansas line was garbage this past year an he still put up points.

Lincoln Riley proved himself at East Carolina... then at Oklahoma... taking his Air Raid approach and conforming it to fit the leagues he was playing in... he's proven. While they do throw alot, Oklahoma's rushing yards are ranked high as well....This is Sonny's first real stint as an OC. Riley>Sonny by far at this point.

You could be right, time will tell... but no one at this point would label him as a big splash home run hire.... Or Tier 1.

Like the list but I'd rank K Briles higher, especially if he brings Stidham. Baby Briles big news at LSU could be a winner here

This hire would make a splash for sure... but if you're Coach O... are you putting this kid and his philosophy IN CHARGE of your entire offensive staff??? No way. He's never been to a job where he's had to prove that he can implement that system successfully... he's unproven.

And add even more to that cumbie doesn't call the plays at TCU Riley does at OU

Art Briles is too fricking old to use OC as a stepping stone.
He said that he'd be a HC in 2017. How that morphed into being an OC in a state where he's never coached on any level is only based on the pipe dreams of this board.
He's not coming.

I agree with your Briles thought. He's a head coach... proven.... doesn't need a OC stepping stone.

I basically agree with everything you have here except I would move Canada up to the 2nd tier.
oh and..
Honestly, like not even being negative but at this point IMO theres a 50+% chance he's the guy so just prepare yourself

Mike Bloomgren-Stan. is worth a look also

Canada is in the 2nd tier
Posted on 12/10/16 at 4:17 pm to Rand AlThor
I do have Ohhh Canada in the 2nd tier... but maybe you are suggesting that he be considered better/or a notch above Sonny (TCU), Sterlin (exTEX), and Helfrich (exOREGON)???

Kiffin a tier above Briles? LoL

Kiffin IS a tier above the Son, Kendall Briles.... actually 2... I have the father ART as Tier 1 ELITE *Risk.... also Tier 1 ELITE *Risk is SARKISIAN....
Do you disagree?
Posted on 12/10/16 at 4:42 pm to GhostStoryTiger
Oh I see.
I'm just not sold on Lane. Perhaps irrelevant to your post but Briles is a more proven offensive mind and better HC too. It is impressive what he has done with QBs but the talent and success was always there at Bama.

The "wheels fell off" because they had no defense. Nothing was wrong with the offense. Is LSU gonna lose many games 52-45? 42-38?
They threw for 3100 yards and 28 TDs against 6 INTs with nobody QBs and WRs
They also ran for 2700 yards.
I know, I know, PAC-12 defenses. But don't tell me the wheels fell off the offense when he's an offensive minded coach and involved heavily with the O. The defense cost them games, and he won't be calling the defense. That's Hoke's fault.
