You were correct. It literally has no chance in hell of passing. And Cruz knows this. It's an easy issue for someone like him to score political points with his base. There is zero chance of getting 2/3 of the HR. It came up for a vote in 1995, and while getting a majority, it fell far short of 67%. And I know of no congressman who lost his seat because of voting against it. Frankly I wish they would focus their attention on something they can actually pass. Kudos to Gingrich for making it part of the CWA and following through and getting a vote on it...but there's no need to do it again.

Did anyone supporting it end up limiting themselves to the proposal?

Pull the plug-drain the swamp! Maybe that's the reason for the visit to TrumpTower?!

Big difference between then and now:

You mean did they voluntarily refuse to seek reelection? Not that I know of.

Really? You really think the existence of social media would make a difference?

My mistake. Clearly, social media has no impact in political discourse.

They should write it so you can come back after sitting on the sidelines for a few years. That would weaken the arguments against it. It would also force members of Congress to go home and live with the results of the laws they passed. Then if they want another tour of duty, they won't be so out of touch with reality when they go back.

It'll die a quick death, but it's good he's trying.

If I ever do run (and it would require deleting most of my posts on here) I would make that a major plank of my platform: No more exemptions for members of Congress for laws they pass.

They need to be defined with 5 or fewer boundary definitions. Any semblance of striving for 'demographic balance/majority/minority should be sternly rejected. Encourage all demographics to be part of a locally coherent community and do what is right by that community. Screw identity politics. In fact, any politics based on demographics should be outlawed = all laws apply equally to all citizens, regardless of sex, color, religion, education, politics, wealth, position, . . . .

Dammit Ted, you will make it awfully hard for me to stay mad at you if you pull this off.

I don't know about that, I feel like the political climate today is significantly different than it was in '95. Best case scenario is cruz reaches out to Bernie so that there can be some bipartisan push for this. Those two obviously have radically different ideas about how to fix America, but I think they both agree that the political establishment needs to have it's power reigned in. I can see this getting grassroots momentum if the debate can be framed the right way.
Washington would've been a shoe-in for a third term if he had the mind for it, but he decided that the presidency is better suited by turnover. I think it's time to evaluate whether or not the same is true of our other political leaders

Hes doing that so that when he gets nominated to SCOTUS, he gets confirmed 99-0

Google "Proposed 28th. Amendment". Hopefully, this will be addressed as well.
