We should have stopped talking about this in 2012 when it wasn't possible to go back in time and change things.

I refuse to believe Mettenberger wasn't as good as Jarrett Lee or Jordan Jefferson as a Sophomore.
Maybe this will help.

'11 147.55RAT vs #1 NCAA SOS.
'12 127.13RAT vs #9 NCAA SOS.

Remember, this is Mett's RAT with another summer of playbook schooling and work with #1s.

Quarterback play was the reason we lost to Bama in the BCSCG. Mett would have been the solution.
LSU might have lost Mett for '12 season with the protection issues in NCG.
Not perfect, but JJ completed 65% of what Bama D gave him while under duress almost every attempt.

I think your point need to be that he probably would have had his 2012 type year in 2011 which was probably on par with the Lee/Jefferson combo. He could have then had a 2013 type season in 2012 and we probably win the title.

In the spirit of this post, I will likely open another re-litigating the split time Cholly Mac imposed between Bert Jones and Paul Lyons. Very relevant, don't you agree?

Jarrett Lee actually had a very good 2011:

62.3 %
1306 yards
7.8 YPA
14 TDs
3 INTs
152 rating (best in the SEC)

interestingly, Mac also used the two-QB system with David Woodley and ..... Steve Ensminger.

A little known fact solves that mystery. Mett couldn't play that day. He was injured. He threw a punch in the Great Locker Room Brawl and hit T-Bob in the head. Broke his damn fist.

That's what one of my sauces told me

We can always fantasize can't we and pretend what if.

I can remember when we all knew if Harris had played and Jennings sat, we would have done___________ (fill in the blank).

I can remember when we all knew if Lee had sat and Jefferson was inserted then we could have ___________(fill in the blank( and then it became if only Jefferson had sat and Lee had played then ____________________(fill in the blank).

The truth is for most of Miles' time at LSU our QB play bas substandard leaving fans to dreaming and playing only if.

I'm glad somebody said it. People forget how well Lee was playing going into the Alabama game. Feel like he threw a 50 yard bomb to randle almost every game.

Amen and it's not as far fetched as ppl would have you believe. His classmate Aaron Murray was starting his second season and setting records at Uga in 2011.

Not very good through nine games.

Mett could have had his mediocre year in 2011, which would have been better than JJ or JL. Then in 2012 and 2013, Mett would have been lights out.

Charges against Jefferson getting dropped is why we lost to bama in the championship. Lee, although started the season rough, got better each game and earned the starting spot. That team was unstoppable until jj came back and had to split time. JJ must've had some serious dirt on les to be able to play in 2011.

There's nothing to support that.
Look at the stats 10 posts above your far fetched claim.

He's probably right. This is just another blunder of the Les Miles Era that cannot be undone.

Gotta remember in 2012 3 of the 5 olineman were out for the year by the end of the Florida game. We all know mett was twice as talented of those 2 and with the 2011 supporting cast could've easily put up good numbers.

If Mett would have come in ready to compete for the job and get his work done in the classroom that may have happened.

At the very least, Mett should've gotten real snaps during all those 2011 blowouts. But nope, of course not. So 2012 had to be spent nursing Mett along. Since the complex Miles scheme requires 3 years to grasp. It's a travesty LSU only got one good productive year out of Mett. Way to go, Les and Cam.
