Purdue isn't a terrible job by any means. They're in the Big Ten West (Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Iowa are the best programs by far) and they've been moderately successful in the past. Purdue is basically at the same level as Arkansas and Missouri (historically).
You can win at Purdue easily. 3 of your annual opponents are Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern and the other programs have been up and down for several years.
Purdue is a very underrated job

Wow that's some major shade being thrown on Arkansas. Not sure what's worse, being compared to Missouri or Purdue.

Minnesota is light years ahead of a Purdue as a football program, and you would think is much more appealing to recruits given the location and Minny's new facilities.

That is a school he should not have gone to.

I disagree. While Minnesota had a lot of success in the 1940s, but have completely sucked since 1960.
Purdue is somewhat respectable. They won the conference in 2000 and have been to 9 bowl since (1 Rose, 1 Citrus). Minnesota hasn't been to the Rose or Citrus bowl since 1962
At the current moment.... maybe. But I think they can quickly be turned around. It isn't difficult by any means to be 4th best in the B1G-West.

Still don't know why LSU didn't talk to this guy or look at him more seriously.

So this has to mean their 2nd or 3rd stringer will want to transfer correct? LSU will be looking for a starter in a few years .

He still would not have been the homerun hire everyone on here keeps talking about.

Maybe I'm biased, Minnesota is a team I have always liked but not really sure why. They've been a bowl team regularly since 2000 and have several 8 wins and a 10 win season.
That's probably about the best Purdue can hope for.

Solid hire. If he gets Purdue to bowl games on a consistent basis he will get the opportunity to get a better gig.

Agree but going after an up-and-coming guy that has great potential was a better way to go if the home-run guys were off the board.

The general consensus of this board has been we had to have a homerun hire. The risk reward with up and coming coach with potential based off small school success is probably about the same as hiring Orgeron. Other than maybe Fleck not many of the up and coming coaches are going to get top 10 jobs and be off the market in 3 years if O flames out.

another coach looks at Baylor and says.... "Nah"

Homerun hire for Purdue.
They need to go offense since the rest of conference is big 10 ball. They need to be different so teams struggle to match up with them. I love this hire
