Big 10 making changes where officials can't officiate game if from the same state as one of the teams playing. Can we get the SEC to do the same or will the Bama privilege prevail? The Ohio State game had at least 3 officials with ties to Ohio.

SEC too corrupt to fix the corruption. The ones who could fix it are the ones inducing it.....

Seems like a simple and logical move.

Even if SEC did make changes like that, the REPLAY calls are still taken from the home office in Alabama.

This is what you do when you are concerned with optics and want to maintain the highest level of integrity where officiating is concerned.

Congrats to the Big 10

This will only change when a ref from the state of Louisiana, Texas or Tennessee cost Alabama a football game.

Meanwhile, the SEC has former Bama players officiating games.

Congrats to the Big 10.....but wouldn't it be better for the NCAA to nationalize All the Ref's like the NFL does ? It's not like they don't have the money or couldn't find the money to pay these guys and their expenses. Just a thought

WRONG. A family friend is a retired SEC official, who played at Bama, but he was not allowed to officiate any Bama games.

Not sure...we should e-mail this to the head of officials at the SEC offices.

LINK

HUNTSVILLE, AL. -- Steve Shaw, recognized as one of the top football officials in the country, has been appointed Southeastern Conference Coordinator of Football Officials, Commissioner Mike Slive announced.

Shaw replaces Rogers Redding, who was recently selected to become national coordinator for College Football Officiating, LLC. Redding continues to serve as secretary-rules editor for the NCAA Football Rules Committee.

Shaw, who recently worked last Saturday's Rose Bowl, is a graduate of the University of Alabama and a Birmingham resident.

Shaw has officiated two BCS national championship games and four SEC Championship Games.

The SEC already has that policy for baseball umpires.

A umpire I know who calls college games for the SEC who lives in Hammond told me he is not allowed to work LSU SEC games but he can call LSU non-conference games.

I don't know about football.

Maybe not, but you're wrong.

Last time I checked on this rule, it stated that no alumnus of a school could officiate a game involving their team. That rule, for whatever reason, does not preclude Steve Shaw and BAMA grad from being the head of officiating for the SEC, but whatever.

Even so, how easily could an official with ties to an SEC program skew the league standings without ever officiating a game involving his team? Imagine an LSU alumnus officiating an Iron Bowl if LSU needed a loss by one of the them to get to Atlanta? Or a BAMA grad officiating and LSU-UF game knowing a loss by LSU helps his cause.

Nah...the SEC has plenty to clean up, but this isn't one of them.
