A LOT OF shite was reported initially, that was just straight up contradicted by the JPSO. Because we read it on NOLA.com does not mean those same people are actually witnesses or are willing to tell that to the police.
Who here can tell us what evidence the JPSO has right now? Not me. I wager not anyone else either.

You damn right it would if they had been arguing since the Bridge and had been yelling back and forth, and one guy gets out his car and tries to attack another in his car, one he does not know is armed.

Dude was standing his ground. Good shoot, apparently.

Is Joe McKnight black?
He preferred "African-Irishman"

I really do not have enough info at the moment. I feel for McKnight and family.

Why would they let him go? Isn't he a flight risk, considering he's probably about to be charged w murder?
He turned himself in to be charged at the scene of the incident and appears to have fully cooperated. Why wouldn't he be expected to show up for trial?

I forgot in my post, UNARMED. So why does the gun come out? That should have ended things and no one would be dead.
Instead, he goes another step further and shoots it. That's where the line is crossed

Trayvon was unarmed, too.

So you were there? I didn't see the whole conference, was Gasser injured? Were McKnight's knuckles bruised?

listen, I'm not knighting for this guy, I think he will eventually be charged. I am just willing to trust JPSO when they say they are doing what they think is best in order to build a case, which is how I interpreted Newell's comments at the end of the conference.

Maybe he didn't want to risk his life fighting a 200lb professional athlete?
I'm not saying the shooter doesn't deserve blame, but I take issue with the idea that we should have fist fights with strangers who can obviously overpower us instead of using the means of self defense to prevent them from harming us.
On the other side, though, I don't think people should get off scot free if they willingly participate in a road rage argument that ends up with the other person dead.
If you aren't willing to deal with someone without shooting them, don't talk shite.

I read that also, and that he fired an additional shot at that time. Even if he was a little scared at some point, that kind of action could mean that the next time we see this guy is selling leather goods at the rodeo.

You just changed your entire argument.
If this is truly a self defense situation, how would the shooter know if the attacker was unarmed? Was he given the opportunity to frisk him first?

Very few psychologists on this board.....the issue is whether or not it was a criminal act....based on the statute it doesn't appear to be.

Again, we do not know this. It is equally probable that either person is the aggressor here. Although the fact that Joe was out of his car and Gasser fired from inside his car (according to JPSO) that makes me believe it is slightly more likely that Joe was the aggressor, although it is not certain.

There's no duty nor obligation to threaten to shoot someone. If that level of force is justified, you take it. If you reasonably believe you are at risk of being attacked with lethal force or serious bodily injury, you have the right to defend yourself without first threatening your assailant.
Posted on 12/2/16 at 2:58 pm to Sid in Lakeshore
The standard for self-defense is high (and it should be) so Gasser should have made damn sure his life was in danger... sitting in your car with a piece means you better make sure you see another piece before you shoot

I agree the shooting itself looks like self defense, but if Gasser was the instigator prior to Joe getting out, that stinks.
