My favorite quote from him "This was about my religion, not theirs." We could all learn from Justin Normand.

Here is his full post on social media:

quote:

I have had the most extraordinary weekend. Like most everyone I know, I have been in a malaise and at a loss since Election Day. What to do? With myself? With my time? To make things better, or even just to slog through? I manage a sign shop, and so I had had the urge for a week or so to do this. Friday, I had a couple of spare hours in the afternoon, so I did. I made a sign, and I drove to the nearest mosque and stood out on the public sidewalk to share the peace with my neighbors. My marginalized, fearful, decent, targeted, Muslim neighbors. Someone took a picture and posted it, and as of today it’s been viewed millions of times, and shared across various platforms many hundreds of thousands of times. This is extraordinary and humbling; mainly because what I did isn’t (or shouldn’t be) all that extraordinary. For me, this wasn’t about expressing agreement; I remain Presbyterian, not Muslim. It wasn’t about demonstrating my outrage to right-wing drivers driving down Esters Road in front of the mosque. I can never, and will never, change any of the haters. It’s not about them. Not this time, and not here. This was about binding up the wounded. About showing compassion and empathy for the hurting and fearful among us. Or, in some Christian traditions, this was about washing my brother’s feet. This was about my religion, not theirs. And, it was about what I think I must do as an American when our way of life is threatened. Targeting people for their religion not only threatens our way of life, it is the polar opposite of our way of life. Find a group marginalized by the haters in this current era we find ourselves in. Then, find a way to express your acceptance to that group in a physically present way, as opposed to a digital one. I can assure you, from their outpouring of smiles, hugs, tears, hospitality, messages extending God’s love, and a bouquet of flowers, it will mean a lot. My own religious tradition ascribes these words to my deity: I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me. It is also in this vein that the words on the Statue of Liberty embrace, with eagerness and mercy, all who come to join us: "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" These words bespeak the America we all remember, know, love, and are still called upon to be. Especially now. Lastly, it worked. I felt better for the impact it had on my neighbors. They genuinely needed this encouragement. They need us. They need all of us. They need you. We ARE one America.

I don't get all the Muslim hate on this board. Especially from people who claim to be Christian. Prepared for many downvotes to follow. If this angers you and you are Christian, then you are a total hypocrite.

Trump 3:16

For Trump so loved the United States that he banned Muslims so whosoever lives here shall not perish in attacks but have long lives.

I don't have a problem with the general message, but it's kind of like blacks showing support for the KKK. Maybe worse.

You seem to be the type that wouldn't resist and willingly kneel to be beheaded.

If I'm going out, they'll have a hell of a fight on their hands.

How can you as a gay man defend Islam? It just makes no sense.

I get the message and want to agree, but until Muslims show me they are willing to speak out against st radicals and jihad I just don't trust the narrative that they promote a peaceful religion. They may not be suicide bombers, but their silence and refusal to action tells me they are ok with it.

I am not a Christian but I was born and raised in the Bible belt and I come from a family with a long tradition of Christian pastors, so I know a thing or two about this.

My question is where in the Bible does it say that we must submit to Islam? Are you aware of the Old Testament? The Jews back then were pretty brutal SOB's. They killed and pillaged their neighbors and were at constant war with the Egyptians, Phillistines and a gazillion other tribes/nations in the middle east. I mean that's what the OT was -- a book about war. I mean the (((Jews))) believed they were chosen and they really did have an "us vs. the world" mentality. Actually, their attitude wasn't much different than Islam's.

So, I've never bought into this notion that Christians are supposed to be some weak limp-wristed pacifists. Does it mean Christians are supposed to be war mongers? No. But the Bible does NOT teach that other religions are "equal." That's bullshite.

Again, I don't give two shits either way since I don't buy into any religion. I am just saying, though.

I don't have a problem with Muslims. I have a problem with people that leave a broken system then try to turn where they found refuge into where the ran from in the first place.

Go look at Europe, it's perfect example of what you get letting in a mass number of people with a contradicting culture. They are trying to create sharia zones in Germany...

I have nothing against any practicing Muslims in the US, I'm just against hastily taking on a million refugees, especially from area with deep seeded hate for America

And there is also this of course:
^ This is in the last year: 63 dead, 83 injured

This isn't a murder, there is plenty of that in the US. This is attempted mass murder without a specific target... Terrorism

Muslims can go to their church, find out it invited and supports a man that says gays should die, then have a member go kill 10 off them in a suicide rampage, then STILL continue to go to and support that particular church.

Conversely most Christians would not. Sure, Catholics will turn a blind eye to child molestation but not blind hate murder.

Even if it makes (saved) Christians angry, they've still accepted Jesus as lord and savior and therefore have eternal life. Wish I could say the same for everyone else.

I respect his message but why does he have to be the one to spread it? Why can't American muslims do the same and show that they love America and shun islamic radicalism? Why does he need to step up for them? I duno I just hope he inspires them
