Dear Tigers (and lurking trolls)

I got back from Louisiana this week. Spending time in New Orleans and Baton Rouge and moving around a bit getting in as much as I could. I wanted to simmer for a few days to grasp how I felt.

Basically I've been an LSU fan for years - sitting up until 4am over here watching games a world away (7,500km to be more specific ) so it took me a while to get a grasp on how it felt to be in Tiger Stadium, in a place I imagined, watched, read books about for years and year. Walking around the tailgates, going into the stadium, hearing the band and being in the November sun was amazing. An experience I won't get again until I get to go back over.

I just wanted to put down a few observations.

You people are awesome -being around you all, seeing your passion and love for football was brilliant.

You have something the rest of the world would envy - to have the tradition, mystique and history all to yourselves is a real luxury. Everything about the game and the build up is addictive, inspiring and left me wanting more. To know and learn more about LSU and the region.

You have become spoilt! As stated above - you are BLESSED to have this on your doorstep. It was sad to see fans walking out of the stadium when the final drive (unfortunately unsuccessful)was about to begin. I know it comes from a passion - you wouldn't be paying the money if you didn't love but don't disrespect all that has been created and evolved for you!

The Guinness is actually surprisingly OK in Chimes.

Freds is fricking mental.

The future is bright. I know a lot of folks aren't set on Coach O. But there seems to be a will and a drive to succeed there at the moment. I'd happily take a bet that we will win an SEC championship in three years. Its coming - the current team is not miles away from it and the necessary changes will happen to take a step forward. I think the first step was taken this season when we stood toe to toe with Bama like men. That experience will be vital in Tuscaloosa next season

Anyways - I'm rambling now.

I just wanted to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Friendly and passionate people that made the ten days great for me and my girlfriend. Its a holiday we'll never forget and we completely fell in love with the whole region and culture. A really inspiring place and although you have some issues in the population at the moment - I really hope things work out well and that everyone in LA is as safe and happy as they should be.

Amazing place.

ps. If any of you are holidaying in Ireland in the future - hit me up for tips and advice. I'll certainly be active on the board in the future! (as I'm completely addicted to LSU football now )

What led you to becoming an LSU fan?

Like many from Louisiana, I have Irish ancestry. One of my family members visited Ireland a few years ago and happened to be in the same pub as a well known rugby player (Moss Keane I think?). Apparently they ended the night as best friends after realizing they both had Kennedy surnames in their lineage. From the stories I heard, the rugby player was very loud and kept calling my relative his long lost 'effin cousin'.

I don't speak Irish. How much is that in Freedom Units?

Glad you had a good time man. I wish it could have been a night game for you.

Dang, as a passionate LSU Tiger fan (missed 2 home games in 50 years) and a Louisianan for life, your words brought tears to my eyes.

Thanks for sharing.

It's refreshing to hear from someone that has just experienced their first game in Tiger Stadium. I think some of us, at times, take the experience for granted.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Louisiana.

Football is pretty big in Ireland The NFL mainly but the college games are on TV. I just got an interest in my teens and have been watching/following for 8/9 years. The college game sucked me in big time an I've a few friends who follow closely, we'd go around each others house on a Saturday night and watch. I wouldn't miss an LSU game and the wonder of the internet gives me the local podcasts on 104.5. Its a small world!

Moss Keane was a famous player in Ireland. Vey famous... He's dead since 2010 though - was it before this?

Make sure you get out into the countryside! Dublin is great but get to somewhere like Wicklow/Kerry/Clare/Galway also.

I love reading stories about people's first times to LSU/Louisiana. Thanks for sharing!

You definitely weren't. As I mentioned, I really enjoy hearing about outsiders' experiences and thoughts on LSU. It's a refreshing perspective from what we see on this board. Yes, we may have become spoiled with success, but that's not always a bad thing to not accept mediocrity and to strive to be the best. Again, thanks for sharing and I'm glad you had a great time

I spent a week in Dublin back in August 2014. I stayed at the Shelbourne on St Stephen's Green. The folks at the hotel and in Dublin were friendly and wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

My ancestry is also Irish, but for the last 100 or so years, that part of the country has been called "Northern Ireland".

My lineage is from Antrim, to be exact. My next trip will be to Belfast to look up some long separated cousins dating back to 1710!

Anyway, I loved Dublin and the trip to Powerscourt--friendly folks and beautiful countyside.
