True...but Penn State has a HUGE advantage in that they beat Ohio State.

My opinion is that neither fans, coaches, commentators, nor committee members can determine who the better team is. Because of that, most deserving should be the standard. And, thus, head to head should be the most important aspect of determining that.
However, there is no head to head solution here. Penn St. beat OSU, OSU beat Michigan, and Michigan beat Penn St.
The question becomes, how important is winning the conference championship? If it's very important, Penn St. should get it. If it's not important, then the eyeball test needs to be used to pick one of the 3 teams. You can't eliminate Penn St. and then decide you want to use head to head.

Ohio State has a winning percentage of .916
Penn State if they beat Wisconsin is .846
7 percentage points is pretty significant.

College Football writers have this misplaced notion that they should have major influence on the sport. Whether it be recruiting or wanting a seat at the CFP Committee table, they always feel like they should play a part in the outcome. This further proves that.

Meaningless to be honest. We're way past counting losses as the biggest identifier of who is the better team. Head to head would more than make up for that.

Y'all can argue that his logic is fine all day long, but all I see is a writer saying he's the smartest guy in the room and what he thinks should be taken into greater consideration than the results on the field.

Composite of 90 computer models
Using that Ohio State is a clear 2nd, Michigan is in 4th--close behind Clemson--and Penn State is a distant 7th well behind Wisconsin who is in sixth.

Computers, please.
One of those computers has Ohio State #8. Another has them #10. Yet another has them #13. Auburn is #3 in one of them. Which computer is more objective?
Let's not do this. Computers are as fallible as the humans who designed their algorithms.

This shite is what killed the AP polls and BCS
Nice revisionist history.
AP pulled out because they didn't want to have to vote for the champ who the BCS said was champ. The Coaches poll voters became obligated to vote one way - AP wanted to vote their conscience not what some formula says they should vote.

That's not bad logic...
I still refuse to acknowledge that the Soviets beat USA in basketball at the 1972 Olympics.
To a degree.
And this voter seemed to have watched the game unlike the fricktard history of the coaches poll which has always been a joke.
If he watched the game and thought Michigan is the better team - well then isn't that what OSU fans have been arguing when it comes to PSU and Wisky?...we're better than PSU (forget us losing to PSU) - we're better than Wisky (forget that they may win the Conference Title).
They've been arguing that results on the field don't matter.
The argument still seems to be:
It's still eye test and it's all just subjective...who do we think is better. Winning on the field doesn't matter in matchups against closely ranked teams.
So if this guy thinks eye test Michigan is better...what's the problem?
Everyone keeps arguing..."the best teams," regardless of who beat whom and conference title.

Even if it was the right call, if it takes a 4th down play where you barely get the first, in double over time, at home.... after the opponents drive was stopped after an obvious PI no call.... yea, I think you can consider Michigan the better team on a neutral field.

1 Alabama - 0 Losses
2 Ohio State - 1 Loss
3 Clemson - 1 Loss
4 Washington - 1 Loss
EVERYONE ELSE WITH 2 LOSSES OR MORE
Anyone that thinks the Penn St/Wisconsin winner should get in ahead of Ohio State would also think that a 3-Loss Florida should get in over Alabama if they win Saturday? Didn't think so.
Yes there are exceptions to this.. Western Michigan is 12-0 but when you play Ball State, Akron, Toledo, Kent State, and Buffalo you won't be considered a top ranked team.

And ranking Michigan over OSU is not even the weirdest ranking or poll.
This is Colin Cowherd:

It is bad logic all things considered. If my buddy chooses to ignore on the field results and think that the results actually didn't count, that's fine. This guy is a supposed professional casting an official vote, and totally ignoring the final score. I mean hell, UGA is abotu a minute and a half from being 10-2 this year although we suck, but I damn sure dont' think we desreve to be ranked like 8th simply becuase we "almost" did really well. It's a dangerous mindset to say "well I know these teams just played each other and we know who won, but I personally don't like the outcome so I'm going to pretend it didn't happen".
Now, with all that said...these days the AP is as irrelevant as WG's own personal poll (that is to say, neither actually count for anything) so I guess this doesn't matter.

LSU is a dumb pass, a half a second, and a few inches away from being 10-1. and no we don't deserve to be ranked, much less ranked in the top 10.
Oklahoma State is a confirmed incorrect call away from being 11-1 and playing to win the Big 12 this week, and possibly a spot in the playoffs. What would happen if they were given that victory, beat OU this weekend and miss the playoffs as a 1 loss team? Big 12 would probably have another vote and get some new teams in asap and get a championship game.

Embrace debate, baby. Embrace debate.
I don't know what's the worst thing about this:
1. Trolling has become so transparently stupid, predictable, and formulaic.
2. That the audience that watches this garbage or yells at him STILL doesn't see what he's doing.
3. That some people know what he's doing, and they still find it funny and entertaining
4. This is what's kicking ESPN's arse in morning ratings right now, which will only force them to get even stupider. Alabama/Cowboys Super Bowl, baby!
Posted on 11/28/16 at 1:44 pm to Weekend Warrior79
The problem with his rant is that OSU did get the first down. It's pretty clear the ball passed the line to gain on review. An objective look at the play bears that out.
