Do you honestly think a rancher who is dealing with thousands of illegals trespassing on his land will care if the government needs to take a few acres to build a wall to keep them out?

We already built the easy part of the wall and it wasn't that easy. It took years of litigation to secure the property.

it because essentially the wall would cut off their access to the river.

Hell, build the wall on their property and tell them that they are welcome that illegals are no longer crossing over onto their property. If I were the property owner, I'd be thrilled.

There are portions of the current wall that are a mile away (inside the U.S.) from the official border. We're talking about taking away a lot of land here.

You think Texas folks are just gonna bend over? Have you ever been to Texas?

This will cost of lot of money and take years of litigation, if it ever gets done.

Do you think those landowners like the idea of people invading their own property? How would you like it if a steady stream of people marched through your yard?

NO ONE WILL BE DISPLACED. No one has a house within 50 feet of the border. If they do, then there is probably a tunnel underneath it, and the house will be razed anyway.

They should deputize very persons that lives near the border. Give them the ability to arrest any illegals that trespass on their property.

Why would ranchers and others be against a fence that will keep trespassers off of their property?...and they don't have to pay for the fence!

Did they conclude how many private land owners? I imagine a lot of that land is owned by a few families in the rural parts of the states.

Not using this as a counter argument necessarily, just curious.

I also wonder how many homes or other buildings are built right on the border. My assumption is a lot of that land is unused.

I think a good bit of the private land has been held for generations...when I mean generations I am talking all the way back to the Republic of Texas days

Sure, they worry about the trespassers.

But, I think landowners are smart enough to realize that something like a 20 foot wall is not going to stop anyone.

All you need is a ladder or a shovel.

The fence that is currently in Texas is built in sections. Basically, it covers the federally owned land and some of the poorer landowners who wanted the ED payments.

We're talking about a lot of different private owners here.

Once you've got your permits, wells are easy to drill. But permits can be a bitch, amd that's not strictly government overreach, the southwest doesn't have the same kind of underground water resevoirs that we have in the southeast.

All the cattle ranchers whose cattle drink from the Rio Grande will be pretty upset.

There are Texas families that currently live in the no-man's land between the wall and the actual border. I'm talking about the Mexican side of the fence.

Others would be impacted same if the wall were continuous. There are laws that govern how close the wall can be built to the Rio Grande, plus some logistical issues.

Sounds like you're in cahoots with Mexico to not build this wall.

Fine, change "stealing" to "expropriation with compensation"

No, I just think it won't work. Because it currently doesn't work where it has been built.
