He lives in a deep blue state by the way:

quote:

It's hard to see how things could have turned out this way. It can be difficult to understand people who live so far away, and in such a different informational world.

It's taken a big effort throughout the cycle for me to read and understand directly from the people who support Donald Trump what their thought process is. While of course there are a bunch of 'reasons', in the end if I had to pick one I would describe what I see as a backlash against the cosmopolitans. (People like me, and everyone I know).

It was a backlash against being called stupid and bigoted. It was a backlash against constantly being told, "you aren't smart enough to know what's good for you and others, but we do". It was a scream of rage against the condescending and derisive Facebook posts and chortling late night comedians.

I've seen many who would make these posts and drive those things on a day to day basis. Donald Trump is their finger in your eye and they want you to know it.

Already, I think we are starting to see a name for this groundswell, some are calling it "whitelash". The smart people may have forgotten that when you push a large group of people around, it may not matter if you are right. The human thing to do is to push back.

I think he may be one of the few on the left that gets what lead to getting Trump elected.

He's close but they still won't admit or maybe even realize that there are large swaths of educated and smart people that were tired of their shite as well..

The problem with this theory that the quote is correct is that it is not. Trump voters are largely stupid and bigoted. So, they state facts.

It was backlash against the ones these idiots help elect.

It matters, but you are wrong.

That's part of it. The other part is people are just tired of electing the same old people and getting the same old crap in return. They're tired of the corruption and outright disdain the folks in DC have for people outside the bubble.

Waaaaaaay more than 60 million people are stupid. Bigoted? I'm less sure.

Even trying to be reasonable and objective he still couldn't help but throwing in a subtle little holier than thou snippet at the end.

Getting tired of the "uneducated" narrative. But yeah, he's got a point

Trump got 58% of the white males with college degrees.

Deal with it.

I would say that he is on the right path, but he didn't truly grasp it all. There are people that do not like the direction this country is heading, and are taking appropriate actions to change course.

You don't need data. It is a fact.

I deal with a lot of intellectual people, and they all point out the bigotry of the Trump voting base.
