From MMQB...regarding Unger and M. Thomas...

Saints center Max Unger. Unger played a key part in the Saints’ impressive offensive performance on Sunday. As a pass protector, Unger didn’t allow a single pressure of Drew Brees on 44 pass-blocking snaps. In the run game, Unger and his linemates cleared the way for the Saints’ backs to run for a combined 154 yards before being contacted by a 49ers defender.
Drew Brees, quarterback, and Michael Thomas, wide receiver, New Orleans. Amazing how quickly Brees and the second-round rookie from Ohio State have formed the sort of quarterback-receiver bond that it typically takes years to build. Why is it the right combination? Because Brees had a very similar receiver, Marques Colston, age out of the lineup at 32; the Saints let him go last spring. And in came Thomas two months later in the draft. How similar are Thomas and Colston? Both around 6'3½", both around 225 pounds, and both run about a 4.5-second (non-blazing) 40-yard dash. To see why Brees has fallen in like with Thomas, look at his second touchdown catch Sunday, a wrestling match for the ball in the end zone that Thomas won with athletic physicality. For the game, Thomas caught the fourth and fifth touchdown catches of his eight-game career, and he now leads the explosive Saints with 47 catches … on pace for a 94-catch season as a rookie.

Thomas seems more physical than Colston. I love Colston and that's not me saying Thomas is bettter, just more physical

A lot of folks around here don't remember young Colston just old Colston
Thomas has a chance I think to be better but thats a long way off and won't be a easy goal to reach. Just wanted to add and say the one difference I've noticed is Thomas's body control seems better and he seems more flexible than Colston.

no way
Colston was great at running through tackles. Thomas runs around them

I do think Thomas has that high level of confidence needed to be elite, though. He is so damn impressive.

Thomas is a bad arse but don't forget the amount of hits Colston took. He was as tough as they came.
Rebounded quickly from a broken collar bone in 2011.. Got hurt against Green Bay and came back like 2-3 weeks later

Yeah Thomas' mind is definitely right. I mean it takes serious balls, as a rookie, to have a twitter handle like "can'tguardMike"

For a VERY long time no one in the league caught the high ball over the middle contorting his body and exposing himself like Colston. Part of the execution was Drew throwing the ball high and trailing Colston to where only he could catch it, of course that meant he was ripe for the picking as the safety delivered the hit. And that was when you were actually expected to light up a receiver over the middle.

The Brees-to-Colston back shoulder throw was a thing of beauty.

Thomas' footwork is elite for a ROOKIE, kid going to be a stable stud for a long time

I know Colston was a beast. He stayed in the game for a play, knowing he broke his collar bone.

Yep. They may have both been timed in the 4.5 range, but Thomas seems a step or 2 faster than prime Colston. Definitely quicker

I think the biggest difference between Colston and Thomas is where they came from in college
Thomas is more NFL ready but hopefully he can be the at least the next Big Smmmmmooooooothhhh

Everybody in here doing everything they can to avoid blaspheming.,..I'll say it. Thomas > colston overall as a receiver. Has a little bit of everything. Colston was great at what he did though.

Colston was a tough fricker

i see a lot of similarities to Cris Carter, not sure why. Similar builds, neither are blazers, both physical to ball and incredible hands.

CC is a great comparison

Thomas has better ball skills, quickness, and speed compared to Colston as a rook.
