Is Aranda the next Saban?...

I know it's too early to tell, but everything points to this guy having the ability to be a great head coach. It would make me sick if we could have had him and passed him up just because he lacks the 'experience'. As long as we keep the defense as good as it is, any top flight OC would be jumping at the opportunity to come here. I'm all in for Aranda.

Great coordinators don't always equal great head coaches.

Agree, and there are plenty of examples of the transition not working. But eventually there are those coordinators who do have what it takes, and if they check the boxes and if you feel they have what it takes then you have to give them a shot, whether or not they have the experience.
There are also head coaches who have done well in some places, but then fail when given a shot at a better opportunity. Either way, you're going to take a risk, so I don't think we should avoid all coaches without head coaching experience.

Which boxes does he check other than being a great tactician?

Agree. Aranda a larger unknown than any candidate.

we dont know much about aranda besides the fact that he's a fantastic DC.

The reality is it will be hard to keep him.

I meant the check the boxes as a general comment around if a coordinator checks all the boxes, then we shouldn't ignore him because he doesn't have head coaching experience. Ultimately Alleva and the Powers that be need to decide that based on their first-hand knowledge.
I agree that he is somewhat unknown at this point, but we know he is smart, organized, and has an incredible football-acumen. He can go toe-to-toe with the big dogs strategically, and that's huge. His defenses have also been inspired all year long, even with the coaching changes, which tells me he can motivate. His demeanor is very focused and business-like, which is why I drew the comparison to Saban.
We don't know his ability to recruit, hire/fire coaches and manage the team. My gut tells me that he is smart enough to handle those, but those are all things we won't know until he becomes a head coach.

make him the highest paid D.C. ! He deserves it.

There's no way of knowing that at this point in time. Putting myself in the shoes of an LSU fan I would want Alleva to hire Thomas Herman as HC and then make Aranda the highest paid DC in the nation. I would then offer Coach O a significant pay raise to be the recruiting coordinator. Jimbo doesn't scare me at all if y'all hire him. I believe Jimbo's best days are behind him. Jimbo should be dominating the ACC every year with the advantages he has in recruiting base in Florida and the resources.

You mean the advantage of recruiting against Florida, Miami, and every other good school that comes into Florida to scavenge whatever recruits they can?
Compare that to LSU who has just as much depth at the high school level, who really only has to compete with bama within state lines

quote:We know that our players praise him. Is he salesman? Maybe not. He may need a good recruiting coordinator to run the sales part. But Aranda is what the selling point is for recruits. Even right now. O is out there selling Aranda.
We don't know his ability to recruit
If we can still maintain recruiting and bring in a good OC, I think we can easily be very successful with Aranda as HC. Especially when it comes to scheming and winning games.
The only unsurety I have is that it's something he's never done before. We don't know if he can be the face of a big program quite yet.
I know I would have a hard time watching this guy walk out the door, though.

His demeanor isn't on the same planet as Saban. I don't believe I've ever seen him get excited. He may wind up being a fantastic head coach, but all this "is he the next Saban?" is absurd.
