Or just donate stuff and take a bigger charitable deduction.

You are basically having people haul off your stuff after giving you pennies on the dollar, right?

Donate it. People in need will get far more value from it than your average grandma looking for a steal.

How much do you value your time?

It depends on what you are selling. If all you have is household items, kids clothes, and modern toys, then it is junk.

If you have a ton of stuff from the 80's or older, albums, old toys, tools, collectibles, etc, then yes it is worth it.

As a garage sale junkie, I can tell you that I can pull up to a garage sale and decide if it is worth shopping or not without even getting out of my car.

And they are not allowed here, which I am glad.

I made $700 on a yard sale. Really didn't have a lot of stuff either. Key is being organized and priced reasonably.

one thing I'm always suprised at is the kinda trash people will buy if it has a price. Literally sell bags of trash for .50. Those fools will buy anything for cheap.

And it's a great opportunity to case your house. Keep your doors locked and the drapes drawn and don't let anyone use your bathroom. And keep your cash on you, not in a cash box.

Versus making 2-3 times that in tax deductions, no headache, and getting your Saturday for something fun?

I make GOOD money off other people's trash!!!

Friday I bought a 14k gold cross and chain for $2 (~$300 value)
Yesterday I bought some vintage Mexican Silver jewelry for $20 (~$200 value)
I bought an old player piano scroll cabinet for $20, turning it into a liquor cabinet

I would say over the last 15 years, I am pushing $80,000 just from garage/estate sales

We typically have a family yard sale every June or July. My wife and I typically make $1000-$1500 in 2 or 3 days

I put a pot plant by the road because it had a huge antpile in it. Walking back up the driveway I heard a car stop and door open. Turned around and some dude was shoving it into his Celica. I started walking back to the road to mention the ants but he jumped in sped off and laughed while giving me the finger.

That was my yard sale.

Putting anything metal out on the curb in my neighborhood is the quickest form of recycling. If I put something out on a Sunday afternoon it's gone within the hour. Scrappers drive around all weekend throwing stuff in their truck. Hell, sometimes I help them load it up since it saves me a trip to the dump.

Depends on if you like talking to strangers at 6am in the morning when they come knocking on your door. If so, have a sale.

I don't, so I donate.
