I am getting some drastic changes in cost on an older home in the Southdowns area. I have received quotes back from about 7 companies, numbers running from $1,500-$3,000.
Any recommendations on who to call?

There are so many factors that are involved here that no one on here will be able to tell you what company is the best. We have over 25 companies in southern Louisiana and there are many factors that determine what company is the best for you. Each company has better rates for what they like ex. Older homes, newer homes, exact location, construction, your credit score, claims history, type of roof etc. The only way get the best rate for yourself is have an independent insurance agent with a larger agency shop you around. Once you have the best rate you then can make sure the company is backed by the state. Not promoting myself at all but if you want to shop your policy from over 25 compaines(every independent company in the state) I would be happy to help you out. I work for one of the largest independent compaines in LA.

UPC would probably be a good option on this one.

Maison is good but they usually aren't that competitive on older homes. Same with FedNat. You're better off just going to the 2-3 biggest independents you know and asking them to give you a quote.
