The Tweet, which has been liked over 30,000 times, was accompanied by a lengthy statement on systemic and institutionalized racism and called for others to join their cause by not standing idly by and to engage in meaningful action.
quote:
“Systemic and institutionalized racism are the defining civil rights and social justice issues of our time,” says the statement signed by Your Friends at Ben & Jerry’s. “We’ve come to understand that to be silent about the violence and threats to the lives and well-being of Black people is to be complicit in that violence and those threats.”
quote:
The statement also specifically references the recent police officer shooting death of an African-American man in Charlotte, and links to a separate landing page on the company's website titled "7 Ways We Know Systemic Racism Is Real."
quote:
As soon as the statement was posted, Ben & Jerry’s social media pages were flooded with comments. Many celebrated the company for taking a firm stance on a controversial matter.

Great, because if there is one voice I want to hear social/political viewpoints from, it's from a fricking ice cream company

Nah, Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream kicks arse. I don't stop eating Spicy Chicken Sandwiches from those fundamentalist loonies at Chick-Fil-A, I'm not going to change my ice cream preference either.

I don't buy that overpriced shite as it is.

I'm good on the listeria. I'll stick with haagen dazs.

I wouldnt buy blue bell if my life depended on it. fricking liars and coverups.

Some of it is pretty good. They have some interesting concepts. You're missing out.

Not apples to apples, sorry.

So I take it you're just realizing how far left Ben and Jerry's is? Not even sure how that's possible.
Regardless I don't give a shite, they mean nothing in the political realm. I'll eat chick FIL a and wash it down with Ben and Jerry's

People make themselves miserable worrying about the politics of companies like this.
There is a line, I guess, where I would boycott, but it's way out there. And frick BLM.

Ben and Jerry have always been America hating, communist, hippies. This is nothing new.

I like the way you think.
FYI, B&J's sold out to Unilever a few years back, so Ben and Jerry are two rich ex-hippies. Still, freedom of speech and all, they're free to say what they want.
I do like me some Cherry Garcia...

If I boycott everyone I disagreed with I'd be naked living in a cave. Political board and Facebook must be broken.

We've got a local shop that sells awesome ice cream. I'll stick with that. Lemon wild blueberry cheesecake is awesome.

overpriced product.

quote:
Superpremium Ice Cream - These ice creams tend to have a very low overrun (as low as 20% even) and a high fat content (>14%), resulting in a very dense and rich product with a weight typically greater than 80g per 1/2 cup. They also typically use higher-end ingredients with a price point to match, and come in smaller containers with gourmet flavors. Examples: Haagen-Dazs, Ben & Jerry's
Premium Ice Cream - Premium ice creams tend to have lower overrun (~60-90%) and higher fat content (11-15%) than regular ice cream, resulting in a heavier ice cream (weight of about 73g per 1/2 cup). Examples: Blue Bell, Baskin-Robbins
Standard Ice Cream - Meets the fat (10%) and overrun (100% or less) required of the federal ice cream standard. The weight of standard ice cream tends to fall around 65g for 1/2 cup. Example: Breyer's ice cream line
Economy Ice Cream - Meets the fat (10%) and overrun (100% or less) required of the the federal ice cream standard, but tends to sell for a lower price than standard ice cream. Example: Typically the store brand, or those large tubs of ice cream ubiquitous to kid's birthday parties everywhere.
