The SEC is also conveniently having a down year as well.

Oh..I wasn't directing that toward you, but the arrogance of the Longhorns.
"Oh we gotta fire strong before he goes to LSU."
These coaching hires are all about timing.
If Saban would have not been a bitch, and just went ahead to the Dolphins, LSU could have had Meyer or Spurrier, but he messed up the timing. He drug his feet and milked Miami for more money. And I understand he was torn, but you can't tell your employer "you guys wait on me, and let me decide whether I want to remain your coach or not" (meanwhile giving MIAMI more time to sweeten the pot).
LSU's timing is perfect this year because it gives Herman 2 years as a head coach with success whereas he's probably not getting the LSU job last year with only 1 year of coaching experience.

I bet talks started back up the second we fired Miles, they don't want to be late to the party and make another underwhelming hire like last time.
He has a $15 million buyout right now. This is crazy talk. Texas made no moves based on what LSU did. Strong is a good coach, and I think he'll do well regardless of what you SEC-biased folks on here say.

SEC biased? On a SEC message board? What are the odds of that?

Carrying off a coach for a home win over a crappy Notre Dame team. Alabama and Ohio State dont do that. Can you guess why?
Texas is trying to build momentum, and that Notre Dame team was considered pretty solid at the time. Hindsight is always 20/20.
Do you remember LSU carrying off their coach after beating an average Texas A&M team? That coach was the coach the very next season.

To McCombs and the Jamail's $15Mil is nothing...these people don't comprehend mediocrity and irrelevance

I think Herman wanting to stay in TX and waiting out UT is the biggest issue for LSU. He knows Strong is on his way out in the next couple of years so he can wait it out at UH.
Assuming he truly wants to stay in TX.

If LSU hires Herman will there have to be a "Texas clause" in the contract to deter Texas from poaching Herman from us?
Posted on 9/29/16 at 2:18 pm to Brazos
yeah that tx clause is gonna be a 20M buyout, along with half of the barnett shale interests.

He does? I think you're making this up 100%.

Red McCombs is 88 years old, and Joe Jamail passed away.....just FYI. Red McCombs was the genius who said Charlie Strong "seemed more like an assistant coach". He's very out of touch.
Strong is fine if he finishes 8-4/9-3. I know its fun to think about LSU as the center of the college football universe, but its simply not true, especially when it comes to a school like Texas.

Agree if strong loses both to ok st and ou I think they make the move and get Herman. I am a big Texas fan these next couple of weeks.
Posted on 9/29/16 at 2:23 pm to tiggerthetooth
Tiggerthetooth....you do realize Strong was like their 7th or 8th choice to be coach right? The boosters are almost worse in Austin than they are in BR...politics are strong there. I would not be shocked at all if they pay that 15 mill to get Strong out...IF he struggles some the rest of year. Like someone said, if the Big 12 is down this year and he can't win more than 8 games...ummmmmmmmm

Egg...to be honest I would have to go back and look up all the articles regarding the search. I remember coach after coach saying "no" and then they settled for Strong. They fired Mack thinking they could get Saban and it backfired on them big time. All I know is the search committee didn't say...well, lets go get Strong then since Saban said no
They think like us, they think they can get the best of the best...but, it wasn't good timing for UT. That's why they don't want to mess this up with Herman.

Red knows more about UT than youll ever know...even at 88, and yeah, big Joe is dead, but his family is still heavily involved with UT...come off it with the know it all BS if it doesnt fit your PC narrative

If Texas is 7-6 or better they will keep Strong I dont think they have the balls to fire him if he at least has a winning record.
How much do you want to bet?
You people are high as a frickin' kite if you think Texas will retain a head coach in football who is 18-20 after three seasons. He has to win at minimum 8, and I am more inclined to think the requisite number is 9 or better given the weakness of the conference this season.

This is why I haven't been so obsessively in love with Herman as the rest of this website. No matter what LSU does, if Texas wants Herman they will get him. He wants to coach at Texas and they have never been completely supportive of Strong. I wouldn't be surprised if they fired a coach that isn't setting the world on fire after two 7-loss seasons.

When and where did he say this?

As far as TOS goes....they are saying that TX is now rethinking not firing Strong, after we fired Miles. They want to see how Strong does the next two weeks (vs Okie State/Oklahoma) and if its a poor showing, watch out. They do NOT want to lose Herman to us. Will be something to watch for sure.
They better keep an eye on USCw too... Herman and his wife are from the Cali. They may decide to make a move too.
