Most of the media agrees that LSU is a top 5 job. Some even say you could argue it's the best job. That doesn't sound like an 8-9 win a year program to me. Maybe you should accept that teams are capable of progression. It's not the 70s-80s anymore.

As much as the kids on this board don't understand. Not accepting losing and not questioning getting rid of Miles, but the reality is this program is a 7 to 9 win program, not a 10 - 12 over the long run. I think we are seeing the natural regression to the mean.
Cool. They should hire me as coach then. I'd work for much less than Miles.

back to life
back to reality
tell you what Im going to do, Im going to tailgate all day Saturday, get smashed, as the sun goes down, stagger through the gate, yell until my head splits, puke, get some tiger water, yell some more, stay until the finish, then go sit in traffic enjoying the days end.
Reality.

You should go cheer for a different team then.
This is completely irrelevant my friend.

Not true, the likes of Miami and even Florida are not up to speed in facilities. I'm sure there are others.

It might not be next year and people need to get ready for that. That's not realistic now if we happen to grab the right coach then yes it can happen but sometimes it takes a while. Once that coach gets to LSU though you will see a championship caliber team again and it could and would have sustained if Saban wouldn't have left.

if we hire the wrong coach, we are a 7 or 8 win team

Your argument is dumb. 20 years ago when only 10 games a year were played then yes 7-9 win team. Now 13 is the norm thus a 10+ win program and a top 12 program all time. So adjust accordingly and you are wrong.....this is where I call you dipshit!!

First off. Any article about college football that refers to wins per season over time is dishonest. Teams play more games now.
Second, the premise of regressing to the mean in football is nonsense. For example. Before Bobby Bowden showed up, FSU had NEVER been good. They almost never broke .500 ball.
Does that mean that if they start losing 50% of their games, their admin should say, "oh well, we used to suck so no big deal"

LSU has everything to be a steady elite team.
Other than a elite coach what does Bama,Ohio State,FSU,Michigan, etc have that LSU doesn't?

bullshite. NFL rosters a stocked with LSU talent, most in the last 5 years. Louisiana is in the top 10 in NFL players per state. There is no reason why a coach that recruits well cannot continue that for a long, long time.
What a dumb article.

Very mature analysis. Forget the wins and loses. We had 1 national title in 42 years. We have won 2 and played for another in the last 13. The question posed is whether our new reality is that we compete for national titles every 5-10 years or if we in fact go back to competing for them every 20. It's a reasonable argument and discussion whether you like it or not.
I don't disagree the world is different, but statistics have a pretty interesting way of working out over a large enough sample size.

Before 2000, you are correct. This program made the improvements, facilities, money, etc. to become a 10 win/year program.
Also, let's not forget that much of the history of college football consists of a time of 11 games or less per year, much fewer bowl games (invites actually meant something), and no conference title games. All of that equals up to those 7-9 wins per year being comparable to or greater than winning 10-11 games per year this day and age.
I'd like to see the other numbers of central tendency (median and mode) concerning wins as well. Would make for a better judgement.
Edit to add: By this logic, we should expect Nebraska to become a national power again soon. I'm sure some others could be expected to rise to the top too, maybe Army?

7 to 9
What Dodd didn't add was that some of those season were 10 game seasons, some 11 & some 12. A better indicator of a programs success pre-1980's was bowl games. If you didn't go undefeated but got a bowl invite you were in an elite group. Why? There were only 11 bowls games in 1970. How many were this past season?

Everybody with an axe to grind is going to get their anti-LSU narrative out until the day of the hire. Lot's of people settling scoreS and expressing their resentment towards LSU. Just ignore it. LSU football is a fricking beast.

Only real team in one of the most talent rich states
Great facilities
Great history
Great stadium
Why are we just an 8-9 win team?

No it's not.
Saban laid out parts of his plan in his interview. He asked Emmert why LSU had such poor academic record with it's football program. He created the roadmap. LSU had never committed that kind money. LSU was one of the first to build a state of the art academic center in the SEC. LSU's football ops building was built at Saban's insistence before many of the other programs in the SEC built or rebuilt their's.
The foundation was constructed with Saban as the CEO charting a course.
