Factoring facilities, recruiting, salary, prestige, history, fan base, conference, etc.. where would you plug LSU into this list and/or rerank my list? 1) Alabama 2) USC 3) Ohio State 4) Texas 5) Notre Dame 6) Florida 7) Michigan 8) FSU 9) Oregon 10) OU/UM/UGA/Clemson

Have you SEEN any of the facilities you list?

IMO this is a flawed analysis. You cannot compare of those places simultaneously because those jobs are currently filled. If USC, UT and LSU all have vacancies this year then LSU is 3rd of the 3 as far as prestige and history.

But that doesn't necessarily mean LSU cannot be appealing to a coach over those other 2 schools.

Realistically I think LSU is top 10, rank them wherever u want to as long as u dont really believe LSU is a top 1-3 anything after that is debatable. I'd put them at 6:

1. Bama
2. Texas
3. OSU
4. USC
5. Florida
6. LSU
7. UGA
8. Tenn
9. Michigan, FSU,Oklahoma,TA&M,Auburn,Notre Dame

There is no way LSU is above Michigan or ND. And Oklahoma is debatable

there are about 10-15 schools that are all fairly even regarding the usual parameters ... lsu is certainly in that list ...

LSU, given the location; the facilities; TIGER f'ing STADIUM; the recruiting, the revenue... etc. etc., is EASILY at top 5 program. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling them self.

we pay more than ou, they have more national titles but part of that is on us not claiming every little thing that flies our way.

instate talent and money put us over ou.

I doubt that.

LSU better job than Bama? No

LSU better job than Ohio State? No

LSU better job than Michigan? No.

Florida? No

Southern California? Hell no, if I had to pick #1 overall it's probably there.

Texas is the weakest of my tier 1 and are you honestly going to try and say LSU is a better job than that?

Michigan broke out the checkbook for Harbaugh, but have been cheap in regards to facilities, assistants, etc. Add in the recruiting competition and they are not above LSU, unless we were searching for coaches at the same time and the Coach we wanted was a Michigan man.

we pay just as much as florida, we don't have 2 other big time instate rivals to go after the instate kids. If you like factoring history into this thing then we own UF in that. Despite all of their advantages UF hasn't cashed in.

The good news is we aren't competing vs any of those schools for a coach this year. Even if USC is in they are likely going west coast guy and we aren't going west coast.

Just because you have that A beside your name, doesn't make you an expert. You refuse to admit LSU is a top 5 coaching destination. Of course, we all understand why.

The history counts. OU has won a lot more than us. We might be above them by 1 spot but it's close. OU has enough prestige to swipe tons of recruits from neighboring states anyways

I don't think its unfair to say we aren't top 5 if you want to go by historical aspect. I think 6 would be a fair argument at the worst spot.

I still think tiers are the best way to look at elite jobs. LSU is clearly in the elite tier of jobs.

LSU is generally ranked at 9 in most all time program polls. Tens is ranked higher than us and its clear we are a better coaching spot. so that puts us at 8. I believe the corn huskers are usually ranked above us as well so that is another team ahead in history but we are clearly the destination that is better. The same applies to ou. so top 6 is right.

UF is in a similar situation how history has them further down they the prestige of the job.

Bama- hard to argue they aren't better, if you look at current state but we strip that away and look at the core which is pay, recruiting ground, and resources. I think they have the slight edge on resources because their facilities are just a tad nicer than us.

I lean to saying the most important part of the tiers would be who has the elite recruiting ground, LSU checks that box, who has top pay for coach and his staff, LSU checks that box as well, who has the resources to stay on top, LSU fits here as we invest in our facilities.

we pay more than ou is willing to pay, our recruiting is better. I think you are overrating history.

OU has had alot of success winning the conference lately but less success delivering national titles as its LSU 2 to their 1 for the modern history that will matter to most recruits.

I think you're trying to read into me saying LSU isn't a great job. It is. Top 10 no question.

You pay as much as Florida, but they're in the east, just changed coaches and made the SECCG yet again. Team with the most appearances in that game? Florida.

True Florida has to fight EVERYONE for the in state talent, but they're still in the east which is a MUCH better situation for a new SEC coach. But they've been doing that pretty well

After Bama goes into their next down period or the rest of the west implodes you might be right, but today is not that day.

When you objectively view where you stand, the path ahead gets clearer.

But Florida has 547 schools with a football team with over 41000 participants with an average of 320 recruits per year where Louisiana has 298 schools with just over 20000 participants and average 83 recruits per year.

Does it really matter where LSU ranks as long as LSU provides the resources necessary to compete at the highest levels? LSU provides enough resources that the best college coach asked for the job in 1998. Since then the resources available have been improved.

To answer your question, I would put LSU in a tie for 5th with Florida behind Alabama, Texas, Ohio State and USC.

ND isn't a better job than LSU unless you really rank history higher than anything else.

LSU has had more recent success nationally. ND has taken a major hit with every team having every game on. They can pay like we can, they don't have that instate talent base to help them and they have tougher recruiting restrictions than we do.

I don't think ND is like the huskers and have faded to complete irrelevance but they aren't the biggest dog on the block anymore. They are a ho hum program.

They are still a threat since pay is something that can match, but they lack the inherent recruiting ground that USC, Texas, LSU, Bama, TOsu, michigan and the florida schools share.
