I coach my kids in multiple sports. I'd say about 5% of the parents are like you're describing. The rest a cool. Or at least tolerable. You just have to block the assholes out.
I agree. Put them in their place early or they will just worse too.

Peoples' definition of fun is different. The competive ones feel that fun is winning, and others can't wait to eat the snacks. By nature it is not possible to get that entire group to have the same beliefs about the team.

but you always have a few like that.
its just the unrealistic expectations that bother me...those are the worst...when the kid sucks but the parents want him to be a super star...and he doesn't even want to be there...that's a tough spot

As for play time in tackle football, the kid doesn't get to play until he's ready to get hit.
you would think...the particular kid in question that has me ranting today has been playing LT in practice...and some DLINE...he sucks at both...but this past Saturday...the right DE for the opposing team was like a man child...im talking about...I needed to see his birth certificate at the end of the game big...6 ft...probably close to 200 pounds.....SUPPOSEDLY 12 yrs. old..I was putting my best guys on that side of the OLINE just to give the QB time to get the ball out of the backfield and this Dad is blowing up my phone asking why his sucky arse son didn't play much...and I told him...cause I though the would get hurt or get somebody else hurt...he said I was an a-hole for patronizing him and his son...meanwhile the kids that were playing that side of the OLINE were coming off the field with bloody lips crying...doing their damndest out there to stop JJ Watt from tackling my qb and running backs in the backfield....but Sucky could have stopped him!!

Sounds about right. We usually had one parent or set of parents that drained the fun out of our games.

Me and a few buddies were discussing sports parents this weekend. One of them was a HC for 8-9 year old baseball team. One of the moms decided that her son was the next Babe Ruth and would consistently yell at him for not playing him. Eventually he had enough and told her in front of the entire stands "Tits will fit in this shirt. If you want to come coach, be my guest." He didn't have a problem the rest of the season.

I've coached youth sports for a long time, and I just don't have the problems with parents that so many coaches do. I will tell you what I do.
First, before the season starts, I have a meeting with the parents, I make sure I collect all their e-mail addresses and text numbers... and I e-mail them a summary of what we talked about. Here's what we talk about:
1. There are a lot of teams out there, and you are free to seek another one if you're not happy with me. But I'm confident I'm a good coach, and my methods work. This is my team, and I run it my way.
2. Everyone will play every game, but the best players will play more than anyone else. Some players will never leave the game because they have earned the right to be there. If you want more playing time, ask me what you can do to earn more playing time. Do it, and you will get more playing time.
3. No one position is better than any other, and your kid will play the position where that team needs him to play.
4. Don't miss practice and expect to play. 90% of your kid's experience in sports is in practice. 10% is games.
5. Please feel free to discuss any concerns with me at any time. The game and league officials are off-limits. I do not allow players or parents to speak with them.
Then, talk about your basic philosophies, what you are going to teach, how practice works, etc. Specific team rules, etc.
E-mail your team's parents at least once a week and update them on team news and what to expect in the week ahead.
If you do this, you won't have any problems with parents.

not me...the VOLUNTEER youth sports coach who does this thing like its a part time job...for FREE...
My family has been involved in youth sports (mainly coaching) for 30+ years. My Mom was a part-time Athletic Director for a Middle School for about 10 years. Every year there were a few parents that wanted her gone for the way she handled situations. And every year she told these people she'd gladly step aside and let them take the job. They never applied.

I agree that it is tough to coach kids that don't really want to be out there.
That's the worst for me. I'm coaching my kids soccer team, 4th grade rec team here in BR. I don't understand the kids that show up to maybe 3/4 of the practices, miss 2-3 games b/c they want to go to a play or pumpkin patch or any other of the 1000 things kids can do on a fall Saturday, and then the parents complain to me when the kids don't play well or as much as the other kids. It's like they are oblivious to the fact that only being engaged with a sport for maybe an hour a week isn't going to lead to improvement.

In my league every kids has to play 8 plays a game or the team forfeits. We have a D2 team so that makes life easier because everyone on the D1 team is pretty good.
If I have a kid or parents complaining about playing time I line them against the starter and have them compete for the spot.
This shuts the parent up.

Y'all play U10, 8v8?
My boy's a 4th grader, but he was held back in kindergarten so he's 10 already.
He's on a club that has 3 U11 teams, 9v9, but there's not quite enough boys to have enough subs, 2 on each team. Because of this he plays on 2 of the teams...which gets crazy for us. Practice everyday but Friday and tournaments every weekend.

Our organization cuts cancers. It was plain and clear at signup, we will not tolerate it. After one family got the boot we have had no problems.

There is a trick to coaching youth sports, and it has very little to do with a coaches knowledge, style, background, resume, or personality.
The trick is to have BALLS.
I have learned (and still learning) that in order to do things your way, you have to collect your sac and be completely transparent with the grown ups. Let them know THEIR role (cheering and remaining positive, unless asked to do more) in the beginning, and that deviating from that role can result in their kid being removed from the team.
I have VERY RARELY had any problems with kids, only parents. If you don't like the way I coach, step the frick up and coach yourself. I don't give two shits about winning - I care about teaching kids fundamentals and making them better players. Winning happens when the kids master skills and compete. There is a difference when you can be a part of getting kids to that point, or recruiting kids who are already at that point.
