Really pulling for him, but he's failed another physical due to complications with Blood Clots

That's a bummer. Wish him the best.

Really sucks if he has to retire. Really great player and apparently an even better person.

But the Heat have like 5 doctors telling them this is a bad idea, surely Bosh is just too emotional to see this rationally, but it's kinda difficult to be upset with Riley here.

I want him to retire. Don't want him dying on the court

You missed the whole "career with franchise" part.

Tough break for Chris. Hopefully I'm wrong but I can't see any other organizations clearing him.

Well it's over with Miami for sure.
It was clear during the playoffs that their stance was not going to change on this matter. I think they want to get out of this contract and found the ideal vehicle to get them to a buyout under the CBA.
Don't think his career is over. I imagine some kind of buyout will happen and Bosh will sign with another team.

He's done. Needs to hang it up before it's too late

It is always tough when an athlete's body doesn't allow them to continue playing, especially when you know they have a lot left in the tank.

I kind of figured it would come to do this but it is still a bummer.

It's my belief that they don't want the doctors to clear him.
If they don't want Bosh to be cleared, it would not be difficult for them to get the doctor to tell them what they want to hear. Perhaps the Heat have established an unusually high standard for Bosh to be cleared; perhaps the Heat want complete assurance that Bosh is not at risk for a recurrence of blood clots.
The physicians are going to tell them that they can't give them that assurance, there's always a chance that the clots will recur. That would prevent him from being cleared.
By the way, all complete speculation.

He will make the best decision for himself and his family. If there is any concern I hope that he would just pack it up.

quote:For an athlete in his condition to get 2 unprovoked blood clots and to have failed anticoagulation on one of the newer drugs? There's a lot of liability involved for a doctor to clear someone like that. It's not like you can say 'there's a high risk of blood clots in the future' and then get off scot free. It would be negligent and against standard of practice.

yep, any doctor that cares about his or her career doesn't open themselves up to that kind of lawsuit

Right.
But let's not act as if there are not doctors out there that would clear him if clearing him aligned with the Heat's interests.
You guys are arguing the ethics of it. There are no shortage of unethical docs in professional sports.

Pelicans team doctors might miss the blood clots but that's about it.
