I have an Amazon gift card I need to burn. Im wanting to put a new scope on my brush gun. I don't want to spend a fortune but would like the best light transmission possible since I will be in dense woods at dusk. Leupold VX-1 is what I'm thinking. Reading good things about the Nikon or Vortex equivalent. Opinions please. 250$ or less. Thanks in advance.

It is an affront to the hunting gods to put a scope on a Marlin (or Winchester) lever action .30/30. May you miss every animal you try to shoot with it.
Good day, sir.

I'll put a goddamn 56mm Nightforce Benchrest scope on mine since you said that...

Bushel Banner 1.5x-4x. It has done well.

Interested. I want to put one on my grandfathers old lever action 30-30. It's such a fun little fun to shoot.

For $250, there are a lot of good options. If you want a variable, I'd look at a 1-4X. If there's a chance you might find yourself on a longer shooting lane of pipeline w/ it, I'd then think about a 2-7X, but a 1-4X should be plenty of scope. Having said that, a straight 3X would be really good too and would be less expensive to boot. As far as brands, the Leupold you mentioned would fine, as would the lower end Vortex, Nikon, Weaver and Redfield.
