It's pretty good, dangerously drinkable. Little thin for barrel aged beer but still good. Taste like someone put a shot of whiskey in a Java stout.

you aren't going to find a barrel aged stout for that cheap.

I think Abita is a lot like Shiner in that they've been around since before the craft beer scene exploded, they have in-state loyalty, they've tried to do some innovative things, but a lot of what they put out is kind of meh.

I think Abita does well on their flagship beers but I've often thought that they kind of throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks at times. As an example, when they came out with their barrel aged stout I was excited to try it but have to say that it was a total flop for the style.

I would like to put it up against Lawnmower and see if Abita can match it or exceed it just as a simple comparison.

Covington used to make a pretty decent kolsch back when they were Heiner Brau. Not sure if they still make it under Covington, but it was a solid drinker.

I'll bite the bullet eventually. If they sell out before then I might just give my abita roasting beans a nice kick of eagle rare and call it a morning

Not me, but I will dog Abita all day as I think they are average. I'll take a Lagunitas Pils over amber anyday.

I think for some attacking Abita is attacking their opinion on liking their brewery.

You're not paying attention. I am not even close to trolling or being alone. I love beer. I hate IPAs. IPAs are ruining the beer scene.

Why I hate IPAs

Programmed to hate hoppy beer
IPAs are bad
IPA Saturation
It's about the money

quote:

A side tangent on Boston Lager’s “mediocrity”: frick you if you think you’re too good for Boston Lager. Your palate isn’t “sophisticated,” it’s scorched earth from the ridiculous hop-bomb West Coast IPAs. Most of the IPAs that people love: they’re garbage. Beer snobs – the hipsters with the fedoras who want to know if this beer is vegan – confuse scarcity with quality and ubiquity with mediocrity. Even Dann Paquette of Pretty Things, who is essentially King Hipster, had this to say:

“annoying young hipster attitude toward beer. It’s the same sort of attitude that you find in music. ‘Oh, that brewery was so last year.’ People want to try new stuff all the time, [and] there are two sides to the coin on that for Boston Beer. They’re so big nationally, but I’m sure they’d love to be back on the scene in these beer bars.”

So yeah, I am not alone.

This thread isn't so much people making fun of others for liking Abita, rather people explaining why they don't drink that much Abita. Hell, I love people drinking Abita. It supports a Louisiana business. I would drink more of their beer if I didn't think there were better options available.

Bingo.

I stock my fridge with IPAs bc I think they're delicious. Some are rare, but most are always available.

Right next to my beer fridge is andygator on tap. Go figure, right.

The FBD threads have led me to drink all kinds of different beer, but I would never turn my nose up at someone who disagrees with my taste. Liking beer is subjective. So who am I to be a snob about it.

I can tell you one/some I don't like. Whatever in the hell Lagunitas uses. They managed to ruin a Pils.

the style of IPA that Ghost is

more juicy, citrus and less bitter (and also turbid af)

I feel like you hate IPAs because Mung has alway brought your west coast IPAs, which are generally more bitter and piney

you would probably love Trillium and Treehouse IPAs

There plenty of other beers out there unless you are in the sticks. I get overwhelmed at specs

irony is that hating IPA's more of a contrarian hipster opinion than liking them at this point.

Sazz.... aka the hop that essentially defines the Czech pilsner style??

eta: I don't particularly like this hop either, but Sazz hops is one of a handful of things that defines the style.
