We always called it swamp rot. I've only seen old dogs get it though

I have no advice but just wanted to tell you my thoughts are with you. And I lifted up a prayer for you and the dog.

Thanks to you and everyone else for being so helpful. My wife and I are both on our second marriage and have no children together. This dog is like our child, as I'm sure most of you can understand.

i am not a vet but ask your wife if she has any diflucan its a prescription for yeast infections and its slightly better than keto if she doesn't have her call her lady dr or her own doc see if they will call her in some 150 mg just have her tell her doc she has a yeast infection. 150 mg

here is a source for its use LINK

you might need something more powerful but this may help before you start cutting limbs off. Try and get into LSU

My sister is a vet and I sent her this thread. She said that she's almost certain that it's pythium and is very serious. She said that if you take your pup to LSU talk with Dr. Ryan. He's a small animal internist and is extremely smart and compassionate guy.

Thank you very much for your help and sending this to your sister. We have a 10:30 am appointment tomorrow at LSU Vet School. We originally had an appointment with Dr. Ryan today, but LSU switched us to see a dermatologist after they received the records from our local vet. They are going to do an ultrasound and possibly a CT scan.

We are at LSU now. The specialist and a student are examining her now and taking blood. Possibly ultrasound. They definitely believe it is fungal related. Will post more once we speak to the doc. Thanks.

I want to thank all of you, and especially those who recommended LSU Vet School. Our lab, Darci, was seen yesterday by Dr. Woodward and a wonderful vet student (Kelsey), both of whom took great care of all of us.

When we brought Darci in to LSU yesterday, they asked us if she was "the dog from Tigerdroppings." That made us smile knowing that so many people had helped us and spread the word about Darci.

The testing came back strongly suggesting Pythium (Swamp Cancer), with a small possibility of it being Lagenidium. Regardless, the outcome is the same. Darci has anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months left. This is, of course, heartbreaking, and I'm tearing up just typing in these words.

At least we have some time left to spoil her and enjoy her these next few weeks.

Dr. Woodward has prescribed her Itraconazole and Terbinafine to see if they help or possibly slow the progression of her infection. Unfortunately, the location of the growth on her rear prevents it from being surgically removed.

I highly recommend LSU Vet School. They are very knowledgable, thorough, compassionate, and professional.

Thanks again to everyone here for their thoughts, prayers, and advice. It is much appreciated.
