1. 2001 Miami Hurricanes
Record: 12-0, national champions
Players: Bryant McKinnie, Jeremy Shockey, Ed Reed, Clinton Portis, Phillip Buchanon, Sean Taylor, Jonathan Vilma, D.J. Williams, Antrel Rolle, Vince Wilfork, Frank Gore, Willis McGahee, Chris Myers, Andre Johnson
No other team is even in the conversation. The backups on this squad are what make it truly unbelievable. Vince Wilfork, Antrel Rolle, Kellen Winslow, Frank Gore, and Sean Taylor couldn’t even start!

Didn't they beat a shite Nebraska team that didn't even win the Big 12 North?
Very, very badly.
That 2001 Miami team is easily the most talented team on this list.

Define this, because Alabama and Florida beat Notre Dame and Ohio State by 28 and 27, respectively. I would argue that those Ohio State and Notre Dame teams could have beat that Nebraska team by 23 points.
Nebraska's only big win was against #2 Oklahoma, who eventually went on to lose a shocker to Oklahoma State. Nebraska got clobbered by Colorado.
That Miami team was a great one, especially talent wise, but I don't know about the best. I think Tebow's Florida could have beat them.
For what it's worth, I really liked those Coker-led Miami teams. They were fun to watch. College football just isn't the same without a really good Miami team. Hopefully Richt can out them back on the map.

2. 2004 USC
3. 2005 Texas
4. 2008 Florida
5. 2011 Alabama

Lol, this is a discussion, right?
Just making a case.
My list would go:
2008 Florida
2012 Bama
2001 Miami
2005 Texas
2009 Bama
2000 Oklahoma
Not really concerned with the rest. Those 6 teams would probably handle any other team on the list easily. Had the 2011 LSU team finished the job and not laid an absolute egg in the title game, they would easily top the list. Best team in the last 20 years, easily. But even the best can play shitty games.

2011 LSU was better than both LSU teams on that list, 2006 arguably was as well.

I'm obviously an LSU fan, but 01 Miami and 04 USC were better, mainly due to J Lee/JJ at the QB spot

2011 LSU
If this was "best teams" of the BCS era, they would have an argument to be up there.
I mean, I was ranking...
2005 Texas...4A
2005 USC....4B
I mean some of these game are decided by the nothing...but then realized you can't count teams that aren't holding either trophies. It's often so arbitrary especially if they don't meet or meet unfairly.
I will always think though 2011 Alabama will always look better than in reality to some degree because of the rematch...
Historians and sports psychologists always have said it's 50% tougher to win a rematch and win twice in a row than to just win one when you are pissed off losing the first one.
Bama had all the pyscho advantage and edge and it was unfair to LSU to make them beat a team twice hell bent on revenge. In reverse, it would be like LSU beating Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl and then the voters saying...now go back to Norman and beat them again...but if they beat you, they win the BCS.
Bama got their home game, they got their neutral game 1-1...if you're the best, prove twice like the voters were asking LSU to prove it twice away from home...Give LSU a tie-breaker home game..
This really should be a list of best teams the last 15 years...forget the BCS...what a muddled mess it was from 2001-2015.
Do you know, if you applied the 2003 computer analysis that left USC out of the BCS game to 2011 Alabama...Okie State would have roared past them based on the computers and it wouldn't have been close.
So you could say, LSU sort of got screwed twice by the computers. One, the computers left the #1 team out in both polls, so the BCS lost its luster and two, the new computers had so little weight compared to voters and ESPN, it brought BAMA back into the national title discussion and game.
It's been so arbitrary...the BCS formula changed almost every year.
