Top 3 actors whose career inspired you but never delivered up their potential

First on my list is Viggo Mortensen. I really bought in to his performance in Indian Runner. It was soulful and edgy but authentic. I thought here's a guy who has some range. I am a big fan of Hidalgo for similar reasons. I have eagerly followed his career and granted he has done some nice work, he has never had roles that truly highlight his potential.
Next up is Robert De Niro. Great start to a career but what we found out in the end was that he didn't really have the range to be truly great. Same goes for Al Pacino.
Last Val Kilmer. Real Genius sparked my interest. Top Gun was a generational movie. I liked Willow. The Doors was a great performance. But along the way he became unwatchable. A real shame because he had the gift at one point.
Honorable mention: Tim Robbins, Partricia Arquette, Andy Garcia

Viggo was great in Eastern Promises.
Deniro has had sucha great career. The Godfather II, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Casino. Even later, he was good in Silver Linings Playbook.
Kilmer was last good in Heat.
I'll go with Sam Rockwell. First saw him in Galaxy Quest. Was excellent in Moon. Then was wretched in Iron Man 2 and has done nothing of note.

Carry Elwes might fit in this thread.
Despite his awesome roles in:
Princess Bride, Liar Liar, Despero on Psych, Saw, Men in Tights, Twister
Everyone seems to just forget this guy exists.

You lost me here. He is old and has not chosen good roles recently, but he is easily one of the GOATs.

I think she's done about as well as she could.
True Romance, Ed Wood, Beyond Rangoon (I think her best performance - love that movie), Flirting with Disaster, Lost Highway, Stigmata...but that was the 90's.
Then she hit 2000's and bombed, taking crap roles because there were newer and hotter young actresses.
So by mid-2000's she gave up on the movies and look has been a big TV star for 10 years.

De Niro is one of the all the time greats by any measure.

Ben Foster was the only good thing about X-Men 3 and stole the show in 3:10 to Yuma. I haven't seen Hell or High Water yet but its gotten good reviews. Good actor but it seems like he's mostly done lame movies.
