2008 for me. But the separation started the day Miles took the job on 1/1/05. He's never been as good as Saban. Anybody who thinks differently, well just isn't paying attention. Now Miles had the talent edge on Saban when Saban went to Bama but it was obvious right away it was just going to be a season or two before we were done and not in Bama's league anymore.

It's been tough to swallow after all those years of Bama beating us that we finally got up on them but it didn't last long. Bama has retained what they consider their rightful place, atop CF. LSU settled for mediocre. That's what we are.

Before that NC game Saban actually ran a ground and pound offense very similar to Miles. Bama threw short and medium type passes on 22 of 26 initial 1st downs...few were thrown 20 yards in the air. On defense they played more contain than attack on the option.

Basically Saban changed and adapted to the new concepts and Miles simply has not. I also believe Miles would be much more appreciated at LSU, if Saban had become a successful NFL coach.

1/9/12 was the moment Saban depantsed Les Miles in front of all of America and Miles never recovered. Let's not forget that Les had beaten Saban 2 times in a row prior to that, and 3 out of 5, with one being and overtime loss (2008). I have always argued that Les outcoached Saban in 2010 and the regular season game in 2011. In 2010 Les used fake punts, TE reverses on 4th down, and other bold moves. In 2011 Saban played very tight while LSU players were loose. But that all changed on 1/9/12.

The nail in the coffin was Les going ultra conservative in 2012 when all we needed was one more first down to start taking a knee. Mett had thrown for over 300 yards but we ran 3 toss dives and settled for a FG attempt.

They were attached? Like Siamese twins attached? I didn't realize that. You learn something new everyday.

I don't see it so much as Alabama has widened the gap as much as Miles has declined

Our 2011 team was pretty good; before that awful NCG which has cursed us since we were considered to maybe be one of the top CFB squads of all time by the press. With the right gameplan that same group of kids could have beaten Alabama twice in a row, the talent levels were fairly equal imo. Miles just didn't adjust while Saban did (as he usually would)

The problem is our offense has been stagnant since around that time, our special teams have declined some recently, and the defense took a dive with Steele at the helm. All while Alabama is pretty much doing what they've always done.

I think that hurts worse than the other guy significantly improving. It's time for a change, good or bad to shake things up. Staying stagnant gets us nowhere.

Technically speaking, 24 hours post 1/9/12

Les may have had some residual Saban semen in his colon to expel...

Saban at LSU isn't nearly as good as he is now at Alabama.

He's had talent at both places, the key difference is he also has the REC and the officials at Bama.

It would have been interesting to see how lsu faired under saban from 05-07. Those were some talented teams

Let's be honest. From a pure coaching perspective, the two have never been in the same boat. Two entirely different coaching styles.

I think 1/9/12 is where Saban decided that he was not only not going to play Miles' game, but he was going to force Miles to beat him by doing the exact thing that Miles fears the most - passing.

to be honest, I'll less concerned with comparing Miles to Saban as I am comparing Mile to Arky, Ole Miss, and other SEC programs.

Saban is on another level and I don't expect any coach (except maybe Urban Meyer) to compete with Bama. So losses to Bama, I can tolerate - as long as we're competitive.

But I sure as hell expect our coach to compete with all other teams, and we've laid an egg the last few years against other SEC teams.

That's what really unacceptable.
