so it appears that we're having another QB regress/stagnate as he gets older while playing in the Les Miles offense

i still have hope that Harris could be a good QB under a good college offense, under the direction of a good offensive coordinator. i think he's completely salvageable (but it may be a little late b/c he only has 1 year left and Les/Cam have done nothing to really improve his opportunities on offense)

so let's just say magic happens and Harris ends up under an Urban Meyer, Tom Herman, Noel Mazzone, Kingsbury, Leach, Lincoln Riley, etc. would he be a successful QB in college? if he had been under these coaches for 3 years, would he be an elite college QB?

i honestly believe that Harris (just like all LSU QBs under this regime) are literally set up to fail

If the catchable balls are caught he throws for over 60 percent yesterday and the offense plays much better . Two interceptions he has to improve that aspect.

The answer is yes he is More than salvageable

Hell No. Great kid all the power to him but he is not an SEC QB, shite I don't think he could go play for ULL and do better than Jennings did yesterday.

The dude cannot handle the game, he's too emotional to handle pressure and it showed yesterday. We need someone to stay calm out there. I don't even think staying calm will help his passing. He couldn't hit the short routes in freaking practice, much less a game.

What happens when Bama gets here and they have freaking 250lb LBers staring at him fixing to rip his head off? We saw it last year... 9 fricking yards of offense in the first half.

Depends on how you define salvageable. Problem I see with Harris is his touch on the ball. He bazookas the short throws, but yesterday his long balls were floating (passes to the TE and Fournette especially). Hard to believe that even as inept as Miles & Co has been at developing QBs, that this is still an issue with him.

Offense might suck, but Harris is his own problem. He had chances last year vs Arky and OM, and yesterday failed when the play calling set him up to succeed.

He's done.

Modest talent; low IQ, and now zero confidence.

Its downright insane to think otherwise.

How many highly recruited QBs have looked awful at LSU? How can a team like Ohio State go 3 deep and the 3rd string QB be picked in the fricking 4th round of the NFL draft, while LSU's 1st string QBs consistently play like some of the worst QBs in the nation?

I'm afraid not. During the loss-sealing pick, I felt a warm flush of sobering realization that he may not be mentally capable of performing at this level.

It pains me to type this because he seems like a great kid.

I still don't think Harris is "THE" problem.

After the entirety of the last 12 years, it is hard to blame him for his lack of development. It is all on the coaches.

That said, I think Les and Cam have ruined him and after yesterday he and the play calling will only regress further.

I would be in favor of giving Etling the next 2 games and see if his development at Purdue can protecting him from the QB killing effects of Les and Cam.

I think we should just redshirt Scott and not put him in a single game this year. Hopefully the new coach next year can develop him to his max potential. I think we can all agree Les and Cam would not help him at all.

He was always a raw talent who needed to improve his accuracy. He simply hasn't done that in spite of getting tons of reps and going to special camps. He probably needs to sit for a few games and settle down. Maybe by the end of the year or next season.

No way he should start for a few games.

I think absolutely with the proper system and good coaching. I do believe someone like Jimbo could come over and make him a very effective QB in his system. It's not a coincidence so many QBs are mediocre as hell in CFB but still able to field competent QBs regardless if they're putting QB3 on the field. No way is our scouting for QBs consistently this bad, it has to be on the coaches shoulders especially when you consider how good LSU recruits talent in every other position. The only constant is the system Miles runs and Miles himself. That's your explanation as to why our QBs suck every year. I don't know what else it takes for anyone who supports Miles to see he has been a problem for LSU since he came here. The only difference is it was a slow developing problem that finally hit rock bottom in the NC game and stayed that way since. He's not been able to develop any QB who has sat in his system from day 1. Jamarcus, Flynn and Mettenberger were all QBs who seen significant development prior to coming to Miles getting his hands on them.

As far as this season goes, he's done. No way will he recover mentally from that game yesterday. The only thing he's going to do from this point forward is regress because he'll be trying too hard.

Would Peyton Manning succeed with the LSU offense as a 19 or 20 year old with only the LSU coaches as role models?

kiffin made jonathan crompton serviceable during his one year at tennessee so anything is possible. tom herman would do wonders with brandon harris.

I'm wondering what injury he had in this game that we can use so we don't have to confront the fact that he isn't a quarterback at this level.

His performance yesterday was bad to the point where he truly cost the game.. Average QB play gets us 30 pts with the defensive TD. I dont know if hes salvageable but we wont win many games if he plays like he did yesterday.

I agree with the why are we jamming a duel threat qb into a drop back system line of thought. Our system just isnt very good with a duel threat. Oddly i think brennan is what whe have needed for a long time. If miles loses two more games this year he wont see Imo

Had Cam and Miles utilize Harris' skills accordingly i.e. bootlegs, roll out to the right (not left), and zone-read with LF7, we would have been gravy. This whole 7 step drop and play-action 50/50 jump balls has not been working for LSU. They marched the team out there with the same gameplan every game, every year. You don't need to be a genius or have a blue print to defend against an LSU offense.

3 years in Cam's system and they still have trouble communicating plays in, thus burning essential timeouts. I can't stand it when Harris' squints to the sidelines.. the kid needs some contact lens.
