I ask because I was at the supply house today and a guy was wearing his company short, which had a logo of what I call an upside down outlet. I do know that many electricians claim this is "code" yet when the ground is above the other prongs it makes it awkward to plug in larger dc transformers and other plugs. Plus in my opinion it looks silly.

So what is correct?

This

or

this?

I don't know what the code says, but I have only seen a couple of instances in my life where the ground was on top.

They say the top way is safer, if something falls between the socket and the wall it will hit the ground first instead of arcing between the two prongs.
Not an electrician, just what I've heard.

I love this mythical "code" that no one ever reads or sees but makes the homeowner spend lots of extra money. Maybe there is actually a regulatory code out there, but I'd be shocked if half of these semi retarded contractors have ever seen it.

NEC doesn't specify a direction from last time I checked, I can check the latest edition tomorrow, but it was installers choice.

Lol, mythical? NEC is pretty easy to find and read.

this is correct but not so much for GFCI's outlets, which have text on the reset and test buttons, are oriented with the ground pin down (and the text readable).

When I worked with my dad (electrician), it was always done in pic #2 whether it was residential or commercial. Seen it a couple of times like pic #1.

The plate screw slots cannot be anything other than parallel to the floor for me. I will accept some people like vertical slots. Either way, they should match and not be diagonal like this pic.

There isn't one. From what I have read, the "upside-down" one used to be standard. I flipped around some of them in my house because they were all upside-down, but left the rest

I have it custom made.

Top one has the ground on top, bottom has the ground on bottom. That way I can put two laptop brick chargers in there
