Let's say car was at a dealership awaiting parts for a recall and it ended up being flooded in the recent storms. It also looks like looks like it will be a total loss. Would you expect the Manufactrer to offer extra incentives since it was flooded due to being there waiting for a recall? I am curious as to what your expectations would be. The dealer to go above and beyond?

I would expect a remedy but at the same time understand what everyone is going through.

That's a tough call though really

Agreed that it is completely out of their control and I feel petty for even thinking it with everything else going on. Now pretend that your car has sat there since May waiting on a certain airbag replacement. I guess that's the part that aggrevates me. I expect Toyota to remedy more than the dealer.

Your dealer more than likely has bailees coverage on his garage policy. Every policy is different but this is a basic definition:

quote:

DEFINITION of 'Bailee's Customers Insurance'
Insurance coverage for legal liability resulting from damage or destruction of a bailor's property while temporarily under the care or custody of a bailee. A bailee is a person or organization that has temporary possession of someone else's personal property (dry cleaner, parking valet, jewelers, repairers, etc.)

The coverage includes property that is on, or in transit to and from, the bailee's premises. Events and perils covered include fire, lightning, theft, burglary, robbery, explosion, collision, flood, earthquake and damage or destruction in the course of transportation by a carrier. The insurance is in effect when the bailee issues a receipt to the bailor for the item. Coverage excludes property belonging to the insured bailee and loss due to vermin and insects.

Since May?????

What the frick. I could completely remove everything in the car, tear it apart and put it back together in a week by myself. There is no excuse what so ever of any mechanical work taking longer than two weeks. They are taking you for a ride and you should have been contacted a lawyer. No way it takes that long. Whatever this dealer is get your money from them and run.

POS place.

So you are saying they were waiting on the Takata Air bag parts to come in? So realistically it wasn't 'safe' to drive? Did they give you a loaner car in the mean time since it took so long?

So they just stopped making airbags since Takata fricked up? I mean I just can't wrap my head around how screwed up this is to be out of a car that long. Especially one you are making payments on.

In speaking with some local dealership friends (NELA) as shitty as it is it will most likely fall as a claim under your insurance. However that being said this doesn't mean the dealership won't offer some assistance.

No lie. Our dealership sent out letters and calls the minute of the recall. Notified the customer of said recall, and stated it would take some time for the airbags to be made (in the millions)

Customer can then leave the vehicle with us, and have a rental paid for by the manufacturer...or sign a waiver and continue to drive their vehicle until the parts were in.

Last time I checked, I believe the number was around the 48 million mark.

So was the OP driving a rental this whole time? If he was driving a rental I'd say the dealer did less wrong. I don't think I'd be leaving my car for 3 months at the dealer waiting on a part though. There are only a few years and cars that are in the "high" threat range of bad airbags, they are just replacing a ton of them to prevent more possible issues. If your car was not in the "high" threat area I'd have no issues continuing driving it and signing a waiver until the part came in.

I'd say 90% of our customers did this.
