I didn't get The Catcher in the Rye at all. What did you like about it, just curious.

My two favorites
The Two Towers - Tolkien
H Potter-The Prisoner of Azkaban -Rowling

I identified with it as an angsty 14 year old. If I were to read it today, my eyes would roll out of the back of my head.

I don't think goat book is even a possible discussion. There's too many and too much.

Some of my favorites:

Comedy- Confederacy of Dunces
Horror- Salem's Lot
Fantasy- The Hobbit
Children's- The Giving Tree
Children's novel - Redwall
Influential- The Bible
Sci-Fi- Hitchhiker's Guide
Revenge- Count of Monte Cristo
Political- Animal Farm

Of those. Salem's Lot, Hitchhiker's Guide, Animal Farm and Count of Monte Cristo are top four favorite and most reread.

Other greats:

Dante's Inferno
Lord of the Flies
Ender's Game
To Kill A Mockingbird

I'm not counting Shakespeare as books, but Romeo and Juliett, Hamlet, and Macbeth are three of the most influential works ever written

Hard to pick one, but my favorites are Where the Red Fern Grows, The Outsiders, Prince of Tides, A Tale of Two Cities, Catcher in the Rye, and A Confederacy of Dunces. Recently, I read Unbroken, which was also excellent.

As a kid, I loved The Hardy Boy series and any of Roald Dahl's novels.

The Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson. He's great. Cryptonomicon also great. Anathem, Seveneves, try them all, you'll like 'em!! Glen Cook's "The Black Company" series is awesome as well.

Loved that book as a kid. My son found my old dog-eared, yellowed-with-age copy a few years ago and cried like a baby when the dogs died.
