Could Defense Somehow Be Better Without Lacoture by mid season?

I love Christian and have been upset that he is hurt. I would MUCH rather have him because of his experience and talent.
But ...
(And admittedly, this is me trying to put a positive, half-glass-full spin on things)
Could the defense be better in the long run? Are younger guys more talented than him overall and if they get experience in camp and early in the season, could we be better along the defensive front by the time the Ole Miss-Alabama-Arkansas games come along?
Like I said, I wish he was still with us and this isn't meant to be a knock on him at all. But, if he were still here he would get the majority of the snaps. He is very good but not necessarily the most dynamic. Could his absence cause the defense to get more creative and to try and make more plays?
Bright side?

Honestly, the defense is probably already better. That said, he's a hell of a kid and I wish we had more like him..hoping for a speedy recovery.

No
Absolutely not for this year
Perhaps for next year

Now you've done it...prepare for the shite storm from the LaCouture fan club.
(Note: it's the same people who wanted Welter over Beckwith)

Yeah, I hesitated to even write this because I don't want anyone to think I am knocking the kid. He is a great Tiger and I'd rather have him there. I'm just wondering if there is a player or two that would have been stuck behind him on the depth chart for obvious reasons, but with more reps they could blossom and end up being better?
I hope so.

NO!!! Jesus, that's stupidity on stilts! It assumes our coaches are so stupid they can't be trusted to play the right guys.

so perfect for an Aranda defense?
Isn't the success of this defense predicated on each player doing their assignments?
serious question...isn't this defense complicated?

Shocker, but you read me wrong. I'm not saying that they aren't playing the right guys
HERE'S WHAT I AM SAYING:
IS THERE A BACKUP OR FRESHMAN WHO COULD BLOSSOM WITH MORE REPS NOW WHO WOULD NOT HAVE OTHERWISE????
This is not a knock on Lac or the coaches. I totally believe he was the best option when he got hurt. That's why I said "mid season."

I'm in the Lacouture fan club. The guy is a stud and will prove it in the NFL. And I did NOT want Welter over Beckwith. I wanted Beckwith to hurry up and learn the plays.

I think your point could be valid... the more reps players get the better they can potentially become and Lac not being on the field, allows for more reps for more players.
However only time will tell if the time is enough for the development to occur.
Plus, the talented freshman have some other guys in front of them that haven't seemed to step up in years.... not sure what they are waiting on, but it just might get them to get their arse in gear.
I want FH, GG, etc to make a move and get ready - they have been pretty invisible since they arrived.

I hate that both he and Washington got hurt, but on the bright side, it happened early in camp. If your team's going to suffer some season-ending injuries, better to do it early in camp than, say, the week of Bama.

imo, lacouture would've filled his roll and made the other guys around him better.
but it is what it is. now some other guys get experience. early. which is a good thing.
glass is half full.
PLUS, what's the word on Lac? will he come back next year? that would make it a real plus!

The silver lining with Christian Lacoture and Corey Thompson's injuries is that Les won't insert leadership personnel over talented personnel. We could use both for their experience and leadership, but these 2 guys haven't been the most productive players since they've arrived.

CL not productive?
He's been our most consistent linemen since his freshmen year outside of Davon

The unforeseen thing that could be happening from a very unfortunate situation is that everyone behind him is stepping up their game and getting better to get playing time. There's no way of predicting if they are better or not because there's been no games yet with the new defensive scheme.

No, having him is better than not having him, irrespective of whether he's starting, or not.

depth is better than no depth.
injuries happen.

So you're saying you thought Welter was better than Beckwith?

Well, okay, that's what you're saying now. But it wasn't what you originally wrote. Read your thread title.
Sure, Lac's injury will result in more playing time for a freshman. And that freshman will be better for it. But our defense will be worse, because I don't care how much you develop a freshman, he's not going to be as good as Lac. He would have been a four year contributor and a three year starter. He was one of our best linemen and a defensive stalwart.
