Why Doesn't The USA Have a Big World Class Track and Field Stadium?

I'm not talking about Hayward Field or McDonnell Field or any kind of small venue like that. In fact those are 2 of the only 5 IAAF Tier 1 tracks in the whole country ( others are Auburn, Kansas, and a 5000 seat stadium in NYC).
I'm talking about a big 70,000 or 80,000 seat stadium where we could have IAAF World Championships, NCAA National Championships, Team USA Olympic Trials and such. It seems kind of embarrassing that we have BY FAR the best track and field team in the world and yet we have our trials in a 10,000 seat stadium that's 100 yrs old.
If nothing else can't we put a track down in a big football stadium every few years?

no one cares enough for it to be built
once every 4 years, the athletes and their families care.

I think we have some nice track venues in the US. Granted they aren't the largest but I don't think it is embarrassing on any level.
Don't see the need for a 70,000 or 80,000 seat track stadium. Track simply isn't a major sport in the US. I ran track in college and never once felt that we were running at second class venues.
Franklin Field (Penn Relays)
Hayward Field (Oregon). The Fenway Park of Track venues
Drake Stadium (Drake Relays)
Mike Meyers (Texas Relays)

Will they play football in it?

Those stadiums are nice and have a lot of character, but I meant an NFL sized stadium, something you could play football or big soccer matches in too.
These are the last 5 IAAF Track and Field World Championships venues:
Osaka
Berlin
Deagu
Moscow
Beijing

I know the first one, but not the 2nd one. Where is that? Fayetteville?

Answer is simply that in order to accommodate the track you have to set the seats back 100 feet or so from the playing field that could be used for football, soccer, etc. No football team is going to play in such stadium as it would make it harder to sell tickets.

Makes sense, I just figured Some of the newer stadiums might be able to put down a track temporarily or something.
Yeah, It's Arkansas's track… it's pretty comparable to Hayward Field, seats about 10,000, only far newer.

We have at least 40 stadiums in our country that would rival any track and field stadium in the world and if the event were large enough they would be able to set up the track and infield events in about 3 weeks. But there just isn't enough interest in the sport to justify some huge arena dedicated solely to track. And with Bolt retiring the sport will only lose popularity.

Track and field is only a concern every 4 years in this country.

When has not having a massive stadium ever stopped the US from winning on the biggest stage? Why would we seriously spend hundreds of millions in tax dollars for an occasionally half filled stadium? I say this as a big LSU track fan too

This. If LA gets the 2024 Olympics the Coliseum is getting a temporary floor to accommodate the track.

That was part of the reason why the Raiders went back to Oakland. Sight lines at the Coliseum were garbage:

Another reason is America is wealthier and can afford it, and doesn't need to multi-purpose-venue like other countries. Separate facilities for separate sports keeps the masses from potentially seeing soccer players too.

There will always be another star that will come up and be popular.

Because T&F would never draw 70,000 people in the US.

Well just about every one of those you posted has the field painted for soccer so...thats probably why
