Has there ever been a hurricane that's come directly off the coast of Africa and gotten into the gulf and made land fall in the US?

Yes, most gulf storms come off africa at some point

Yes. Many.

But I would say it's incredibly unlikely to follow the current predictions.

Yeah, many hurricanes are known as Cape Verde Hurricanes. They roll off of Africa near the Cape Verde Islands as a tropical wave and begin their trek across the Atlantic. Hurricane Ivan in 2004 was one such storm, in fact, Ivan became a Cat 4 hurricane before it even got to the Lesser Antilles.
