I find observational type one liner openers to be effective. But like I said, it ALL depends on the type of person they are and your confidence level. It could easily come across as creepy if you don't own it right.

Maybe not really a "pick-up" line but just like a casual conversation starter.... What ya got?

"Hi" is usually a pretty solid starter. Crazy, I know.

They are usually my jam. That or the direct openers like... Hey you over here looking all cute, I'd kick myself if i did come say hello and get your name."

But honestly that is the easy part. What will make or break is being able with that first conversation is being able to build a (eta:) rapport giving yourself value while not coming off as a douchebag.

Yea I don't even think people need an opening line.

If it's a good looking girl, she has heard more than enough of them.

Just being able to hold a convo while appearing comfortable with them and not freaking/creeping them out is 100x more valuable than some cheese dick opening line

see this is always what gets me

if it's a regular, random social situation i won't even go talk to people I know unless (1) i'm 100% sure it is them and (2) they don't look occupied. i just feel like an a-hole interrupting people if they're doing something (like even my close friends)

I might be naive on this, but I never really thought people used these. I always figured it was just a punchline. Would a woman really be interested in someone who started a conversation with a pun?
