Off the top of my head guys like Brad Pitt, Dicaprio, Damon, Clooney, Affleck don't do all that many movies, maybe one release per year. I imagine these guys get their pick of the scripts and top salaries. Why do you think these guys don't do a lot of movies compared to other guys like Sam Jackson, DeNiro, The Rock.

Because the best actors don't generally sign on to do subpar films. DDL is the perfect example.

DDL is an extreme version, he does like 1 movie and then goes and works as a welder for 5 years.

They make $20 million and up per movie. They don't need to work.

Because they make plenty enough money as it is and why do more movies just because? I'd rather chill or go on vacation until a great script comes along, then put everything into that 1 role

And like you mentioned Sam Jackson, current DeNiro, etc they don't want to over saturate their image I'd imagine. It causes more hype and attention for the 1 they do decide to do

Because they don't want to be the next Aaron Eckhart in 'I, Frankenstein'

DeNiro

DeNiro is smart. He is at retirement age and pulling in big bucks. He's milking it to the end. The Rock, well to be honest I'm happy for him, seems like a good guy who just kept on working his way up the entertainment ladder.

Does he really work as a welder? I didn't think it was possible to like DDL anymore than I already do

It is my understanding that it's carpentry, not welding, but regardless it's something with his hands

He tried to be a cobbler like 20yrs ago but nobody would give him an apprenticeship. He later became a cabin maker or something. He apprenticed for years and everything.

He probably makes $10-15 million every 3 or 4 yrs when he does a movie and he learns odd skill/craft jobs in between.

Dude just has lots of interests and isn't that greedy I guess.

If I could make $20M for 6 months of work or less, I would only work every other year too.

because making a movie is difficult and takes time .... Especially something like gatsby where you are filming for well over 100 days

Not to mention a lot of the aforementioned actors also produce films

Is this a real question? Unless you owe someone millions, why would you want to work more?
