For fricks sake. We get it.

The guy had a moment of panic and asked for help and you continue to walk over him while letting us know how perfect you've been at planning out your career path and life.

Youre gonna lose $200k either way you spin it, for me leasing is about turning it in when my time is up, for me it's in a few months. I had another exotic before this and they're tough to sell, actually near impossible and you end up getting raped by the dealer on a trade in which is what you'll have to end up doing. With a lease you hand them the keys and lease another. Only buy an exotic if its one you feel will appreciate.

I definitely agree with this. Which is why I asked the poster that I replied to if he thought buying was the better option.

I appreciate all of the responses.

I think I'm just ready to take over my own finances and provide for my family with a steady career with a decent, livable income. I hate that it took traveling all the damn way here for it all to boil over, but my gut is really pushing me to go home.

I know earning Potential is higher after grad school, but I'm not sure that is a high enough probability for me to not take advantage of a stable $50k/year job with great benefits and plenty of time to earn side income. My wife is also going to go back to work full time (teacher) once our kids are in school, so with her master's degree, we'd make $100k for the last twenty years of our careers. Certainly not impoverished.

Thanks again.

Going with your gut is rarely a bad thing as long as you've adequately analyzed the decision.

I've known exactly that panic, and could feel it in your post.

Good luck to you, bud.

I know the stress of life and changes well...a few years will fly by though I f you decide to stay and finish. It's hard being a long way from family but if the end result is more $ and stability, try to stick it out.

If you go back, close the door to what could have been. No regrets.

Good luck.

The sad part is I agree with most of your thought process behind what he needs to do regarding his future. Generally speaking when times are tough you need to buckle down and make it work. And his wife needs to participate in this process as well.

But you can explain all that to him without being a condescending a-hole and the "look at me my life is perfect" attitude.

Carry on, though. I hope your taquito was delicious.

The "look at me my life is perfect" wasn't in reference to the OP it was in reference to Sigma and Dr Edge, the resident financial gurus on here, especially doc edge who assumed I would soon have financial issues of my own when I chose to have kids

It'll be fun reading your posts in a few years after you have kids...between running your own business and your doctor wife, it'll be great to read about all of the predictable financial issues you will encounter, and it'll also be refreshing to read about whose career y'all decide to end or put on hold for several years to make sure your kids aren't raIsed by "the maid" as you put it.

so being that he knew nothing about me or my situation, and that i so happened to be driving a near $400k car at that moment, I had to do a little internet pwnage while I was doing nothing but waiting in the drive thru line. I never once meant to rub it in the OPs face, just dr know it alls.

The only issue is your choice of venue. Having a $400k car on the OT Lounge is baller status. On the Money Board, however, having the same $400k car raises credibility questions if you are not a comfortable multi-millionaire. If you are, then kudos.

Good for you....live YOUR life the way it makes you happy. Quit measuring your success by other folks' yardsticks. Others may say suck it up and stick it out, but better to walk away before you're in deep rather than muddle through a year and then walk away.

Those $100k humanities professorships are like hens teeth. UT is one of the best funded public schools in the country....such jobs are insanely competitive. Competition at that level isnt for everyone.

You're paying $36,000 a year for 5,000 miles?

That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

Well you clearly haven't run the numbers on ownership which would include laying out $379,000 + tax and tying up your money in a depreciating asset that is not liquid at all when its time to sell hence why people lease such things.. So even if you did, thats assuming you know what percentage of my income $36,000 is, so considering the fact you dont, its silly to make assumptions. I have a couple other cars too if it makes you feel better, I drive a regular suv to work on a daily basis, Im not going in that car. Ive said many times on here I own 5 gas stations and a ton of rental properties. I think if you took the time to take a guess at what my net worth is or what I make annually you'd see that $36,000 isn't going to make or break me, and actually I leased the car after I set a little personal goal for myself. I went from having an ATM company handling my 5 machines paying me $100 a month per machine to owning the machines myself and making a hell of a lot more. Life is all about setting goals and accomplishing them, me rewarding myself with a little toy for doing that isn't a big deal. I guess its upset you, I personally love the car and considering I own my home and over 20+ total properties including 5 that are functioning businesses, Im sure it fits under whatever financial metrics you want to measure me by, I recently posted that I just added 3 section 8 houses last month for $165,000 total that pay me $2,796/mo total those alone would pay for the car if I wanted. I think you should worry about how much you make and spend before judging others who live life the way they choose.

Wow. You really need to let it go. I'm happy for all of your financial success. I simply (and correctly) pointed out that there are tons of people in the world who wait to have kids before things are all figured out. But there are things that are out of your control, and with respect to kids, having money in the bank doesn't solve them all.

I don't give a crap what you do with your life, and how you spend your time and money. But I will say this - I think it is absolutely 100% hilarious that you think that you will walk away from the day to day of your business to sit around with your kid and then play golf all the time when they are older.

Good luck with all that, tough guy.

And it doesn't matter how much money you make...leasing a luxury car that you can drive less than 100 miles per week for $36k is ridiculous. Not whose posts are getting the down votes.

Is it ridiculous if one earns 7 figures annually? To me that sounds exactly like someone who makes $100k a year paying $300/mo to lease a car? Right, is that not what the numbers say? If you make $100k a year is it ok to pay $300/mo to lease a car? Now extrapolate that to a larger income and you'd see its fine. Again you don't know me or my income so no matter what you say its silly. I could easily be worth $20m+ you wouldn't know

Lol you'd complain about just anything, so would anyone who says stuff like you just said. Is it silly when people pay $30k round trip for a private jet flight thats say 4 hours? I bet you think thats silly too. Some people work hard, and play harder, no need to hate on them.
