At what point will police unions across the country say enough is enough?

Praising Alton Sterling as a saint who was gunned down while doing tricks with his yo-yo has got to be one of the more demoralizing things for the local cops to hear.
Crys across the country for cops to show more compassion and restraint while getting drawn down on...I cant imagine fulfilling the duties of my job under this level national scrutiny.
Will unions start to strike?

Hopefully soon, although the better tactic will just to withdraw from bad neighborhoods and sections of town.
Since they don't trust cops and all...

they should all go on strike

I think they'll demand more pay before striking. Honestly, they should.
What would happen if they were to strike though? You can't send the National Guard everywhere.

I heard from a union official that this has already been happening for awhile in Chicago, which of course only led to more violence.

Parallels white flight/gentrification. Damned if you, damned if you don't. Might as well keep on keeping on

They deserve more pay. Even before they did but especially when having to put up with this shite. The good thing about that is that once you pay them more you can start to generate better candidates and have higher expectations for the officers.

I wish they would go on strike.
I never called the cops and really don't see the need to ever call the cops.

They just gonna start shooting Errebody.

Hopefully for the safety of the country that doesn't happen, they should totally just stop going into the black areas though. A lot of the projects in Nola the cops won't go into, sucks for the few good people living in those areas but oh well.

As soon as fricktard is out of office

The first thing the police unions need to do is stop covering for the bad apples when they do screw up. You give them proper representation, but if they have acted improper they should be fired.

This is kinda funny to me. Especially since one of BLM talking points is that cops misinterpret their culture for being thuggish. " Cops treat black people different because they fear them and that's stereotyping and racist" " We hate cops because we stereotype all of them and they are racist"

I think it's well past time to strike.
They've showed enormous restraint.
Especially in cities like Memphis where their bosses were marching with protestors.

The police in Chicago do the same. They'll go into Humboldt Park, West Englewood, Austin, and Chatham but they aren't hanging around. Something will have to look more than fishy or suspicious for them to even bother. It isn't worth risking their lives to investigate any potential crimes based of reasonable suspicion. You better have an on-going emergency, hold up, etc. Those areas essentially police themselves. Hence why it's a shite hole and you'll never see anything closely resembling progress in those areas.
If the police did go on strike, I don't think you'll see a full scale "Purge" where ruthless murders are happening all over the streets, but I believe you'd find more senseless, random acts of crime and violence. Things such as ransacking convenient stores, petty theft, burglary, random assaults of public transportation, etc. It could potentially be devastating on the economy (in a bigger city at least).

Just because you haven't called the cops doesn't mean that they haven't benefitted you in some way that you haven't directly seen.

This has always been my thought. Its way state troopers are usually more professional. More stringent hiring and they get paid the most.

Very true. The only problem with that is they are state employees. Some other state program would have to take a hit in funding, but it would probably be worth it.
