Anyone on the OT ever had a root canal and a crown?

My last tooth on the bottom right side of my mouth has been sensative to cold mostly the last two weeks. It didn't go away so went to the dentist this morning. Did x rays and didn't see anything. Started looking and found a crack in my tooth. Bacteria went into the tooth under the silver fillings and infected it. So he had to numb me up and drill out the old filling. Clean the tooth and then put a new filling in. Said that if the pain goes away after this, then I should be okay. If not, then will need a root canal and a crown. Never had this so don't know if it is much worse then what I just had or not.
TIA
TIA

yes. I had two. and both were easier than a regular filling due to the fact that AFTER they give you the "numbing" shot........you won't be able to feel your dick.

No.
I brush my teeth 3 times a day.

Root canals may have been painful in the past leading to the horror stories but I've had one and it wasn't bad at all. Modern Mexico e is very good.
ETA. Supposed to say Medicine but I like the autocorrect.

Root canals used to be very painful. They aren't any more. I had one done six or so months ago.

Yep,
I broke a tooth eating popcorn. Hurt like hellfire.
Went to the dentist and he numbed me up, did a root canal, and put a crown on it.
It's worked great ever since.
I HATE the dentist, but it wasn't that bad.
Do it.

Yeah I remember my mom had one in the 90's when she lived in atlanta and made me think twice about getting one. But gotta do what you gotta do. Yes I need to start flossing. Brushing isn't the problem. I use mouthwash once a day as well.
I was able to deal with the pain for a few weeks but it just got annoying and didn't want it to develop into something worse, so decided to just fix it now.

The last one I had was really painful and expensive. It really made me start taking better care of my teeth and going in for a cleaning/x-rays every 6 months.

Yes, one of my back molars had a nerve that was dead. I was in high school, so tried to go through it. Finally had my mom to drive me to the dentist when it got unbearable. A shot of whatever he gave me made me start laughing hysterically. My mom thought he gave me laughing gas, but I was laughing because it just didn't hurt anymore. Did the root canal, and the only thing that suffered was my parents bank account. Not a cheap procedure.

Yes. Cracked a lower right molar on a pearl in an oyster. It's a very easy, painless procedure. You get a topical anesthetic to your inner cheek and gums. He injects another anesthetic that cause numbness on that side of your lower face and jaw. He goes to work with a drill and probes and you feel nothing. You go back to your dentist after a week or two and he takes a mold of your tooth stump, gives you a temporary crown(mine fell off, no big deal) and in two weeks you go back and he fits the permanent crown over the remaining tooth stump.

It's not bad, but it is expensive

You' could be the rare root canal patient who is left impotent.

I have had two over the last 25 years, both were relatively painless. I have seen the dentist every six months for most of my 62 years, along with fanatical attention to flossing and brushing. There are a multitude of other things that can result in the need for a root canal that have nothing to do with lack of dental care.

I've had a few. Never found them painful. Just uncomfortable. I had one last 4 hours before...that was miserable having to sit there with my head back and mouth wide open for that long.
I've had an abscessed tooth before....now THAT was painful. Give me a root canal ANY DAY over the pain of an abscessed tooth.

I thought my root canals would be worse than my crowns but I was wrong, due to the fact that one of my temporaries fell off while I was at work. The exposed tooth under it was murder, until I could get the dentist and have her glue it back on. When the dentist tells you not to eat certain foods while you have your temporary on-listen to them and don't be a hardheaded idiot like me.
