Root canals and crowns buy some time, but if the tooth is really bad, you'll end up needing an implant.

I have a temporary bridge right now that is throbbing a bit. It's been almost a week.

I might need to call him if this keeps up.

ETA needs the bridge because I cackled the root of my root canal.

Can you get wisdom teeth out without going under?

I really recommend going under for wisdom teeth. I didn't feel a thing and was pretty much knocked out cold all day long. I can barely remember walking into the Oral Surgeon's lobby and office and then sitting down in the operating chair and that was it. Next memory after that was waking up at home in bed with mashed potatoes and jello ready to go on my nightstand thanks to my mom.

Anesthesia/IV sedation is really the way to go for wisdom teeth removal. Don't take any chances here.

Got mine out when I was about 12. I was given laughing gas and who knows what else. I remember being awake enough to hear people talking but that was about it.
