Rockstar Games has announced that Red Dead Redemption will become officially backward compatible on the Xbox One this Friday, July 8.
Xbox 360 Red Dead owners will be able to play the game on Xbox One no matter the version of the game they owned — the original Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare, or the Game of the Year edition — while those who didn't can purchase the game on Xbox One beginning Friday.
The 2010 game was leaked as a possible backward compatible title earlier this year. Access to the game was later removed, however, with Larry Hyrb noting that the game was made available for a brief window due to a testing error.
Set in the early 1900's, Red Dead Redemption followed the story of former outlaw John Marston. For those returning to the game later this week or trying it out for the first time, check out IGN's original review of the "must-play game."
Maps reportedly leaked for a sequel, which is also reportedly a prequel, to the game earlier this year.

I really don't get the hype about backwards compatibility, I mean if you already have the game, chances are you probably still have the console.

My PS3 died 3 months before the PS4 came out.
I do not own a PS3

It's better than not having the ability to be backwards compatible

Yay. Time to buy it for the 4th time because I currently only own it on PS3
Maybe this will rejuvenate the online which was fun as hell.
Also, anyone who hasn't played it should pick it up. Seriously one of the greatest games from the previous gen or overall.

Agreed, red dead is amazing. Is there any truth to the red dead 2? I saw a post on here a while back about it.

The mystery to me is why xbone seems to be hyping this more than they are new xbone games.

Because backwards compatibility makes it superior to ps4 and it makes sense to press their advantage in a competition.
They could do that with new games as well, but new games aren't unique to the xbone.

I'm not paying $400 for a new system to play games from the old system. They should be pushing new games that are actually made for the xbone. You don't see PS4 promoting PS3 games.

No instead they charge you for ps now to play them

As awesome as this is, I wish they would make it where the Netflix app didn't suck donkey chode

The funny thing is that from what I've read it would probably be easier getting a PS4 to play 360 games than PS3 games considering how different the PS3's architecture is compared to x86 systems.

Never played Red Dead before might as well see what all the hype is about while it's only $7.50

No doubt. You know Sony would rather have real compatability instead of ps now. They paid out the arse for that service.

For me personally, I'd rather just store my old consoles and play re-releases if available. Backwards compatibility/digital versions are always welcome

I started Red Dead finally because of this, pretty impressed so far.
