Giving Parsons a max is a win now move. Almost every Pels fan, yourself included, has called for a patient approach with an eye towards 2019/2020. Maxing out 28yo Parsons doesn't really fit that.
There's the rub. Nevertheless, if I somehow knew that Parsons' knees would hold up, I think I might do it.

I think the dream is to hold out, but again, I don't think there is any chance this franchise takes the patient approach. Of the guys they go after, I think Parsons offers some of the best value combined with an opportunity to both help now and long term if he can get and stay healthy -- which I realize is a big if.

Well, there you go. That does alter the analysis. It would certainly create some additional excitement for the upcoming season. As would Batum, but I doubt that happens.

Yeah. I wouldn't do it, but I also post anonymously on a message board
If they're going to max a guy out this summer, Parsons is a good player. Knees are worrisome, but they've really only picked up guys with pristine health records, so maybe a reverse jinx is in play?
Some Dallas bias, I think, for Pels fans on him.
ETA- I do think Barnes makes some more sense w/ Hield in tow. His ability to play the 4 on defense is attractive. Still a wild overpay, but you arent buying his offense

I disagree. With Hield and Jrue, you must, must, must, must have a SF who can put the ball on the floor and make plays for himself and others. Harrison's stats with more than one dribble are atrocious and he can't create for others either
Miss out on Parsons, give me Dudley or even Evan Turner way before Barnes

I dont think anyone questions Parsons' ability at full health.
do you know what the long term prognosis of the knee is?

With Pels staff or any other staff?
Posted on 6/25/16 at 9:44 am to Crewz
I agree with you but with our medical staff it scares me to give him a max contract I would rather get 2 or 3 solid rotation guys like Dudley

I hope we do not overpay somebody. I really want a slower build.
Get Evan Turner, solid vet seems like a glue type guy, good at a lot of things.
I like Barnes just not for the price. Same with Parsons

That's fair.
I wouldn't trust Barnes to do much creating or decision making. Just not his skill set. They need a wing w/ ball skills in general. And if they're moving on from Evans, they desperately need another + creator.
I do think the conversation about Barnes tends to focus on offense a bit too much.

I guarantee that whoever we sign, the first reaction from 90% will be, "We paid HOW MUCH??"
There is almost 500 million in cap room out there, and another 600+ million being added to the pool next year. The first 50 or so guys to sign are gonna get stupid paid. And only 8-12 of those guys are even sure-fire starters.
My philosophy is that if you are gonna pay stupid money anyway, then get a guy you are sure is a starter. Don't go split that money between Solomon Hill and Brandon Rush, because you think 2 guys is more appealing than 1.
Go get the 1 and then bring back Ennis or find the next Ennis.

MM, in your opinion and from what you've heard, how do you see this roster going into next season?
which FA's do you see us at least making a run at?

I said about a month ago that their dream offseason was Hield and Batum. They are halfway there, but I can't see Batum choosing NOLA.
Parsons does a lot of the same things Batum does, so he is the logical 2nd option. From there, Bazemore, Dudley, and others on that level will get phone calls.
They are going to add 2 perimeter players, but if they can't, they will explore bringing back Ryno if the price is right, to use as an asset down the road.

Yeah, if they are going to spend the money, Batum makes a lot of sense. I don't see him coming here either. How are they going to add 2 perimeter players with the cap we have available?

By getting rid of one named Tyreke. Do that and you can easily fit a starting SF and a quality backup SG in there

The debate in-between Parsons and Barnes is a good one, cause neither really deserves the max. They are both 3rd-4th options. They are easy to compare, since they have been in the league almost the same amount of time. Parsons has been in the league one season longer (even though he is almost 4 years older). But their total games are roughly the same, although Barnes has played in 51 more postseason games.
Parsons- 14.3ppg, 5.1rpg, 3.0apg, 1.0spg, 1.7topg (33.3 mpg).. 47fg%, 38-3pt%
Barnes- 10.1ppg, 4.6rpg, 1.5apg, 0.7spg, 1.0topg (28.1 mpg).. 44fg%, 37-3pt%
Not a huge difference in-between the two IMO. If I had to pick, I'm going with Barnes. That is based off of Parson's injury history and Barnes' youth. But I can understand people rather going with Parsons, since he has had a bit more individual success..

I disagree on signing both. I don't think we need to throw all of our chips in one slightly above avg play like Parsons or potential like Barnes.I would rather do what Portland did. I trade Alexia for a second to clear cap and sign Ian Mahimi, Harkless, and Hill. Go for depth over home runs.
Jrue/Fraizer
Reke/Buddy
Hill/Q/Harkless
AD/Dante
