Seeing Jamie have dinner with the Freys does nothing for his story.
Is there any chance Jamie is the one to turn on the Freys? What if Jamie's deal with Edmure was that if the Tullys pledged fielty to the Lannisters, get the Blackfish out of the way, and they agreed to march with him (possibly against King's Landing and the High Sparrow); Jamie would help the Tully's wipeout the Freys, and give them back their ancestral home?

Both I think. If I remember right, King Tommen-ato said the trial of both would be on the first day of the festival of the mother or something along those lines.
On another note, I'm thinking this may be my last chance to see some Frey Pie. Granted, its not quite having Manderley inside Winterfell causing havoc but I could maybe see them transporting that scene to the Twins for this gathering.

This would be an acceptable way to handle it

the simplest explanation is that he is there at Walder freys request to celebrate taking riverrun and to retrieve edmures wife and child as he promised

He's definitely there at the Frey's request. In Walder's speech in the preview, he says that the Freys & Lannisters send their regards or whatever. But something has to happen there besides a Frey/Lannister toast, right? I don't think they'd throw in a filler scene of the Freys & Lannisters celebrating in the final episode with so much left to tie up for the season.

Get ready for some Cersei wildfire. Too many references to it this season

yes something will happen otherwise why include the scene.
I doubt it has anything to do with making a deal with the tullys other than the agreement with edmure to set his family up at casterly rock
walder Frey would have to do something really dumb to get jaime off his plan to get back to cersei. I think bad things happen to the freys but not by jaime

I think we're about 1-4 episodes away from seeing Dany walking in KL. I just watched her scene where she had the vision of herself walking into the Throne Room and it definitely is burnt to hell. Could be from Cersei effectively burning the city down. Which would make sense because her trial is this week. Could be from Drogon and company burning the city down, as well.
Also, I don't know for sure if that was snow or soot. I don't really think they're gonna get the NK there within a few episodes so it could just be winter?

What if this was the fastest way for him to get back to Cersei. Without Edmure agreeing to take control of Riverrun, Jamie possibly would've been stuck there for two years. We actually never saw Edmure agree to Jamie's initial offer.
While I know that is a longshot at happening, anything else seems even less likely. How would the Brotherhood gain access to the castle to kill everyone? And I think there is even a lesser chance that they introduce the Manderlys with no backstory, and have them all of a sudden wipe out the Freys & Lannisters.
This season the simplest explanation has usually happened, and Jamie already being there seems to be the simplest explanation at this point.

We already had a thread. We don't need a new thread. I liked the old thread.

2) White Ravens arriving
From what I remember from the books, the White Ravens are used to announce the arrival of Winter. I'm almost positive this already happened in one of the very early seasons, but I could be wrong. Do they have any other purpose?

I expect they're having pie for dinner.

It is not specifically winter. they announce the changing of the seasons. The one it season one or two, whichever it was, was the announcement that the long summer has come to an end (Autumn). This one announces that mother fricking winter has arrived. Get hype!
